M Marengo Barolo 2019 750ml

The 2019 Barolo by Marco Marengo is shaping up to be a beautifully structured and expressive wine with both elegance and depth. It's a blend from four La Morra vineyards, showing the producer’s signature modern finesse, yet with a classic Barolo backbone. Expect lifted aromatics—dried flowers, herbs, citrus peel, and red fruits—with crushed stone and bramble adding nuance. The tannins are firm and finely textured, needing a few more years to resolve, but the balance is precise. This vintage leans slightly richer than usual for Marengo, yet retains linearity and polish.

The 2019 Barolo shows medium-dark concentration with a bouquet that includes interesting notes of dried flower, bramble, crushed stone, pomegranate and redcurrant. I notice that this vintage from the Marengo family, with their modern boutique winery just outside the town of La Morra, is a richer, bigger wine in 2019. It will require a few more years of bottle age for sure. The fruit used is a blend from the four vineyard sites farmed by this family in La Morra. Production is 10,000 bottles.
Marco Marengo and his family have recently added to their holdings in the famed Valmaggiore vineyard, with steep flanks and sandy soils, in the Roero winemaking district.

Aromas of fresh cherries and cranberries with crushed herb, citrus peel and dry earth undertones. Medium-bodied with polished and fine-grained tannins with dusty texture. Linear finish. Delicate and attractive. Drink after 2026.

Very pale garnet. This could almost be a decongestant, it's so powerfully aromatic. Broad and with really powerful fruit and tannins underneath. Great structure. Still quite a bit of tannin.
