Bouchard Pere & Fils Echezeaux Grand Cru 2016 750ml
The Bouchard Père & Fils Echézeaux Grand Cru 2016 is a beautifully crafted Burgundy, showcasing vibrant red cherry and raspberry aromas intertwined with hints of crushed stone and damp undergrowth. On the palate, it is well-defined, offering gentle grip and concentration balanced by a fine thread of acidity. Ideal for pairing with roasts, meat dishes in sauce, or medium-flavored cheeses. With excellent ageing potential, this wine can be enjoyed through 2038.

Domaine (En Orveaux, frosted) plus purchased grapes from Echezeaux du Dessus where they look after the vines. This has quite a classy nose, with good depth. A touch of prune in the middle, then a bit more lifted fruit, not quite harmonious but of interest nonetheless. Tasted Oct 2017 by Jasper Morris MW.

The 2016 Echézeaux Grand Cru does not come from the domaine this year since their own fruit was supplemented with purchased grapes. It has a pretty bouquet with vibrant red cherry and raspberry fruit laced with crushed stone and damp undergrowth scents. The palate is well defined on the entry with a gentle grip, the concentration already apparent but countered by a fine thread of acidity. The finish is just a tad straightforward but otherwise, this is a finely crafted Echézeaux, if not quite up there with the 2015.

Plenty of stylish oak influence giving smoke and spice alongside just-ripe redcurrant fruit. Good volume and tension on the palate, with long, impressive persistence. Conventional grand cru – so it isn’t surprising, but it delivers plenty of intensity.

Intense aromas of red fruit and terroir, with oaky touches. In a superb ensemble, this wine is a blend of the elegance of its terroir and the power of its Grand Cru standing. Very good ageing potential.
