Trimbach Gewurztraminer Cuvee Des Seigneurs 2016 750ml

This elegant Alsace Gewurztraminer offers a refined nose of lychee, white fruits, apple, lime, and delicate spice, underpinned by fine minerality. The palate is rich and dense yet balanced by mild acidity and a persistent saline finish, with subtle caramel notes and a dry-ish, nuanced sweetness. Crafted from old vines on Keuper marl-limestone soils, this wine combines power with finesse. Produced only in top vintages, it pairs beautifully with foie gras, spicy aromatic dishes, and fresh fruit desserts. Ready to enjoy now through 2029, it has 10-15 years of aging potential.

The 2016 Gewurztraminer Cuvée des Seigneurs Ribeaupierre reveals a remarkably fine and elegant nose of lychees and white fruits highlighted by fine minerality. The palate is dense and persistently saline, with a discreet, caramel-like sweetness and the first hints of maturity. This is a rich but elegant Gewürztraminer with mild acidity. 14% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in June 2024.
We published reviews of 18 vintages of the iconic Riesling Clos Sainte Hune in one of the last issues, including the latest from 2019, which has been cultivated in the grand cru Rosacker for 100 years. Beyond that, and as always, I tasted a pretty wide range from vintages here in spring and in late autumn last year. All the crus, whether grand cru or not, are of superb quality. The 2020 Gewürztraminer Muehlforst is a Best Buy; the 2020 Pinot Gris Grand Cru Osterberg is one of the finest Pinot Gris I tasted in Alsace last year; and the Riesling cuvée Frédéric Emile, no matter if the 2018 or 2019, should be seriously considered as a wine to purchase.

The predominantly Keuper marl-limestone soils on which it is produced give this rare wine a full and powerful style.
Made from old vines from the former wine estate of the Lords of Ribeaupierre, the grapes are selected and harvested at full maturity.
It is a wine with aromas of flowers and spices with a dry character, but so rich and so fruity that it seems to touch the sweetness… which is only illusory.
This great wine is only produced in the best years.
Pairings : foie gras, spicy and aromatic cuisine, desserts made with fresh fruit, etc.
Aging potential :10-15 years.
