Penfolds Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 750ml

Penfolds Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 is a bold, intensely structured wine aged 16 months in 100% new American oak hogsheads. With deep opaque purple color, it offers aromas of pain grillé, pencil lead, mulberry, spice box, and black currant. On the palate, dense layers of espresso, chocolate, and savory black fruits unfold, backed by firm tannins and excellent length. This powerful, muscular Cabernet reflects Penfolds’ signature style and multi-region blending, designed for aging from 2015 through 2031.

The Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon was aged for 16 months in new American oak hogsheads. A glass-coating opaque purple, it displays aromas of pain grille, pencil lead, mulberry, spice box, and black currant. Medium to full-bodied and seriously structured, it has the fruit to complement its frame. On the palate, espresso and chocolate make an appearance along with layers of savory black fruits. Dense and exceptionally lengthy it will continue to unwind for another 6-8 years and drink well from 2015 to 2031.

Coonawarra, Barossa and Adelaide Hills! A Cabernet Sauvignon to trounce terroiristes. 100% new US oak. They didn't release the wine in 2000 and 2003 because they felt the fruit couldn't take 100% new oak. You love or loathe this wine,' says Gago. 'Lots of people dislike the blending and the US oak, though the barrels are made in Australia.'
Very dark purple. Leather and savour and 'a very alternative form of Cabernet'. A little awkward and lean in the middle at the moment. Very muscular – but much more intense than most Coonawarra Cabernets. Opened out in the glass – less angular.

Bin 707 perfectly reflects the Penfolds ‘House Style’ through a cabernet sauvignon lens: intensely-flavoured fruit; completion of fermentation and maturation in new oak; expressing a Penfolds understanding of multivineyard, multi-region fruit sourcing. Bin 707 was first vintaged in 1964. The wine was not made from 1970 to 1975 (when fruit was directed to other Penfolds wines) nor in 1981, 1995, 2000, 2003 or 2011 (when fruit of the required style and quality was not available). Full-bodied and with proven cellaring potential, Bin 707 retains a secure place among the ranks of Australia’s finest cabernets.
