Paul Jaboulet Aine Cornas Domaine De Saint Pierre 2020 750ml

The 2020 Cornas Domaine de Saint Pierre is a medium to full-bodied Syrah with vibrant blackberry, pomegranate, and hibiscus aromas, layered with spice and cedar. It’s elegant and concentrated, with fine tannins and fresh red fruit, showing a less muscular, more refined style of Cornas. Perfect for aging, this biodynamic wine comes from steep, historic vineyards on south-facing slopes near the chapel of Saint Pierre.

Rippling with blackberry aromas, but also notes of pomegranate and hibiscus, plus a slew of spice, this is a bold and powerful Cornas with quite a dense tannin structure. However, there’s nothing aggressive about it, which suggests you will have to wait years to enjoy the succulent side of this wine. From 3.9 hectares of 10 to 60-year-old syrah vines. From biodynamically grown grapes.

From the highest-altitude parcel owned by Jaboulet and almost always the last to be picked, the 2020 Cornas Domaine de Saint Pierre is marked by scents of cedar, red plums and red raspberries. It's medium to full-bodied, concentrated but not overly tannic. Stylistically, it reminds me of the Delas version (from a nearby parcel of vines), being a less muscular, more elegant version of Cornas.

100% Syrah. Cask sample.
Less typically Cornas but attractive fruit and freshness. Cherry notes on the nose with a creamy edge and light, fine tannins.

On the right bank of the Rhône River, the vineyard is located on the eastern slope of the Massif Central, in the commune of Cornas, near the small chapel of Saint Pierre. The steep south-facing slopes form a natural amphitheater that protects the vines from cold winds.
The ancient Cornas vineyard dates back to antiquity, with its first stone walls believed to be of Roman origin.
