Overture by Opus One Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon NV 750ml

Opus One Overture is a smooth and elegant blend mostly of Cabernet Sauvignon, with a touch of Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. This multi-vintage wine aged 18 months in French oak. Expect polished vanilla oak, rich cassis fruit, and a silky texture with firm tannins and fresh acidity. It’s lighter and more approachable than the flagship Opus One, ready to enjoy now but with enough structure to last a few years.

Stylish aromas, with vanilla oak and the fragrant trappings of class. Glossy, opulent and silky with lovely cassis fruit richness, albeit in a full-bodied, powerful frame with robust tannins and a firm spine of acidity.

Overture blends five traditional Bordeaux grape varieties and captures the terroir characteristics of each variety grown in different soils. Overture’s third blending aspect – that of marrying multiple vintages – yields a softer, rounder expression than Opus One estate that can be enjoyed upon release.

Full bottle 1,363 g. This 2022 release of Opus One's non-vintage second wine is a blend of 2019 and 2018. 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot, 1% Cabernet Franc. Aged for 18 months in French oak.
Transparent crimson. Warm red-fruit nose with some herbal quality and a little briariness somehow. Sweet palate entry and only just sufficient acidity for my taste but only the lightest of tannins. This seems ready to drink already although it's not going to decline that fast. Neat, medium finish. Much, much lighter than stereotypical Napa Cabernet! Top-quality oak and hands-off winemaking in evidence but it's very much lighter than Opus One itself.

In keeping with the tradition of many great Bordeaux estates, we produce a fine second wine, Overture. A natural extension of the creation of Opus One, Overture is the timeless expression of our estate vineyards.
Overture reflects the winemaker's artistry by showcasing the talent of blending five traditional Bordeaux grape varieties and capturing terroir characteristics of the same variety grown in different soils. However, Overture's third blending aspect that of marrying multiple vintages yields a softer, rounder expression of our estate that can be enjoyed upon release.
