Franck Bonville Champagne Blanc de Blancs Les Belles Voyes Grand Cru 2017 is a single-vineyard 100% Chardonnay Grand Cru Champagne from the historic Les Belles Voyes parcel in Oger, Côte des Blancs. Sourced from old vines planted in 1960, this exceptional vintage is fermented and matured in oak barrels before spending years on its lees, developing remarkable depth, richness, and complexity. Layers of citrus, stone fruit, white flowers, chalky minerality, and subtle spice are balanced by vibrant acidity and a long, saline finish. Elegant yet powerful, this gastronomic Blanc de Blancs is perfectly suited to fine seafood, shellfish, and sophisticated cuisine, while offering excellent aging potential.

Fermented and matured in oak and disgorged in April 2025 with a dosage of 2.5 grams per liter, the 2017 Blanc de Blancs Oger Les Belles Voyes delivers a deep bouquet of mandarin, dried flowers and mirabelle plum, mingled with Sichuan pepper and rosemary. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied and concentrated, with a layered, rich core of fruit supported by ample chalky extract and mouthwatering acids, before concluding in a persistent, saline finish. Originating from a 0.8-hectare old-vine site in Oger, it is a strong performer.

Led by Olivier Bonville since 1996 and joined by his son-in-law Ferdinand Ruelle-Dudel in 2000, Franck Bonville is a 15-hectare estate based in the village of Avize in the Côte des Blancs. The bulk of the vineyards lie in Avize and Cramant (on the Avize border), as well as Oger, with a remaining hectare in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Olivier oversees the viticultural work, while Ferdinand assists in the cellar and manages the commercial side of the enterprise.

The estate discontinued the use of herbicides in 2011 and now not only plows its soils mechanically but farms broadly along organic lines, with the sole exception of occasional treatments against oidium.

In the cellar, approximately 70% of the wines ferment in stainless steel, with the remainder vinified in wood. More recently, the domaine has begun purchasing new barrels, which are subsequently reused, sourcing primarily from Tonnellerie de Mercurey, Tonnellerie de Champagne and Seguin Moreau and sensibly favoring them over the second-hand barrels that previously dominated. The Pur Avize, Pur Oger and Pur Mesnil cuvées, however, ferment and mature exclusively in stainless steel. These wines are racked around Christmas to remove them from their lees, then continue aging in tank until bottling in April. All wines undergo full malolactic fermentation, and sulfites are employed both at pressing and at disgorgement. The Pur series is aged under cork rather than crown cap.

The resulting Champagnes are fleshy yet vibrant, defined by succulent fruit balanced by racy acidity. While 2018 is not among the strongest vintages—and the wines currently wear the imprint of the year somewhat prominently—I am looking forward to tasting the 2019s in the near future.

« Historic plot of Champagne Franck Bonville, a testament to the family heritage. »

The oldest plot of our vineyard is composed of 80 ares that witness the origins of our family estate. The wine starts by revealing notes of honeysuckle and acacia. A light evolution can be noted as a sensation of richness comes to surround the wine.

The plot ‘Les Belles Voyes’ has been planted in 1960 in the middle of the hills in Oger’s terroir. The juices are always mature, separately pressed and fermented under oak barrels.

Tasting highlights the qualities of Oger Terroir : intensity and creaminess. The mouth is long, revealing more freshness and minty and salty notes. The plot “Belles Voyes” is noticeable in the range of Franck Bonville Champagnes, thanks to its specific vinification.

Real wine of gastronomy, and thanks to its intensity, this wine allows ambitious food/wine pairing, unusual for Blanc de blancs Champagnes.
