Dr Loosen Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett 2024 750ml
SKU: WHDE20240003
Dr. Loosen’s 2024 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett is a beautifully delicate and vibrant expression of one of the Mosel’s most celebrated vineyards. Made from 100% Riesling, including fruit from old, ungrafted vines planted on blue Devonian slate, it combines fragrant spring blossom and ripe peach with grilled pineapple, Meyer lemon and subtle crushed-stone minerality. Light-bodied and elegantly sweet, the palate is lifted by soaring acidity and a long, silky finish. JS 94 and Decanter 93, with excellent potential to develop further complexity with bottle age.

The spring blossom aromas leap out of the glass. Vibrant and elegant on the light-bodied palate. Dangerous vitality in the long, silky finish. As delicious as this is now, just wait for what happens with a few years of bottle age. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

This Grosse Lagen Kabinett from the famous “sundial” vineyard in the village of Wehlen is overt in its peach-driven fruitiness sourced from one of the world’s great vineyards, planted to 130-year-old vines. Peach ring candies, grilled pineapple and crushed slate alight the glass. The palate is juicy and oh-so-drinkable, with sweet Meyer lemon pulp, ripe peach flesh, and a soaring acidity that cuts the sweetness to perfection. A delight.

Aromas of smoke, white peach and orange. The wine is also direct and straightforward on the palate, with notes of zest and green apple. It gains presence thanks to some nice creamy and fruity notes and the finish.

The Dr. Loosen estate has been in the same family for over 200 years. When Ernst Loosen assumed ownership in 1988, he realized that he had vines in some of Germany's best-rated vineyards. To maximize the potential of those vines, he restricts crop size, uses only organic fertilization, insists on very strict fruit selection, and employs gentle cellar practices with a minimum of handling.
THE MOSEL REGION
Located in far western Germany, the Mosel valley's steep, southfacing slopes create the perfect climate for Riesling, giving the vines ideal exposure to the sun. The cool climate allows the grapes to ripen slowly while retaining bright acidity.
WEHLENER SONNENUHR RIESLING KABINETT
The famous sundial vineyard, in the village of Wehlen, produces the quintessential Mosel Riesling: delicate and refined, with a racy texture and endless charm. The early picked Kabinett is the lightest and most delicate style of German Riesling. Nothing can compare with its elegance and subtlety, as this wine proves with its fine fruitiness and exquisite balance.
