Dr Loosen Erdener Treppchen Riesling Spatlese 2023 750ml
A beautifully balanced Mosel Spätlese with concentrated peach, apricot, red apple, citrus zest and tropical fruit aromas, layered over the distinctive spicy minerality of the red iron-rich slate of Erdener Treppchen. The palate combines delicate sweetness with vibrant acidity, creating a light, elegant and refreshing expression despite its concentrated fruit. The finish is long, saline and mineral-driven.

Very vibrant with great anise, red berry and herbal complexity. Deep and intensely minerally. Terrific freshness and mineral energy on the compact and structured medium-bodied palate. Very long, beautifully balanced finish. Drink or hold.

Loosen's 2023 Erdener Treppchen Spätlese is precise and intensely aromatic on the elegant and complex nose that reveals ripe, tropical fruit aromas such as mangoes intertwined with weathered slate and almond cake aromas. Round and refined on the palate, this is a mouth-filling juicy, saline and savory Treppchen with a backbone of crystalline acidity, around which the generous but elegant and fine fruit snuggles. 8.5% stated alcohol. Screw-cap closure. Tasted in December 2024.
At Loosen, the strengths of the current collection of 2023s lie in the Grosses Gewächs bottlings from those sites with the very old, ungrafted parcels (Erdener Treppchen, Wehlener Sonnenuhr and Ürziger Würzgarten). With the exception of the Kinheimer Rosenberg, the other GGs and Prädikat wines do not come close to their depth. Of the GG Reserve wines matured longer on the lees and in the bottle, the 2019 Erdener Prälat GG Alte Reben is the best.

Aromas of apple, spices and smoke. Theis sense of freshness carries over onto the lean and zesty palate.

Explosive fruit and an expansive texture from the oldest parcel of the Treppchen vineyard, a windy site that inhibits botrytis, allowing for very long hang time and exceptional flavor development. Only one 1,000-liter Fuder cask is produced.
DR. LOOSEN ESTATE
The Dr. Loosen estate has been in the same family for over 200 years. When Ernst Loosen assumed ownership in 1988, he realized that he had vines in some of Germany's best-rated vineyards. To maximize the potential of those vines, he dramatically limits crop size, uses only organic fertilization, insists on very strict fruit selection, and employs gentle cellar practices with a minimum of handling.
THE MOSEL REGION
Located in far western Germany, the Mosel valley's steep, southfacing slopes create the perfect climate for Riesling, giving the vines ideal exposure to the sun. The cool climate allows the grapes to ripen slowly while retaining bright acidity.
ERDENER TREPPCHEN RIESLING SPATLESE
The Spatlese designation means that the grapes get an extra week or two of hang time, which helps them develop higher ripeness and deeper flavors. The Erdener Treppchen Sp?tlese is a fruit-driven Riesling that combines extraordinary concentration and length with bracing minerality.
