A rich and intensely concentrated Mosel Riesling from the celebrated Erdener Prälat vineyard. The 2023 Goldkapsel combines ripe apricot, candied citrus, mango, passion fruit and honey with distinctive red-slate minerality and smoky spice. The palate is exceptionally dense and luscious, yet lifted by vibrant acidity that keeps the sweetness beautifully balanced. The finish is extraordinarily long, precise and harmonious, with remarkable ageing potential.

Fabulous in its ripe yet fresh fruit intensity and delicate flintiness, the 2023 Erdener Prälat Auslese is a generous and mouth-filling, persistently saline Riesling from this famous little vineyard adjacent to the Mosel. The wine is ample yet savory, revealing smoother fruit acidity yet crystalline mineral vitality and tension. This is a highly stimulating yet also complex and seriously structured Riesling from a gorgeous terroir. 9% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in December 2024 (AP 2324).

At Loosen, the strengths of the current collection of 2023s lie in the Grosses Gewächs bottlings from those sites with the very old, ungrafted parcels (Erdener Treppchen, Wehlener Sonnenuhr and Ürziger Würzgarten). With the exception of the Kinheimer Rosenberg, the other GGs and Prädikat wines do not come close to their depth. Of the GG Reserve wines matured longer on the lees and in the bottle, the 2019 Erdener Prälat GG Alte Reben is the best.
