Dom Pérignon Plénitude 2 (P2) Vintage 2008 is an extraordinary prestige Champagne that showcases the remarkable evolution of one of the finest vintages in the house's history. Crafted from an equal blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and aged for nearly 16 years on its lees, this late-release cuvée reveals exceptional depth, precision, and complexity. Layers of citrus, white peach, toasted brioche, hazelnut, oyster shell, and delicate floral notes are supported by vibrant acidity, a silky mousse, and an exceptionally long mineral finish. Celebrated by leading critics, Dom Pérignon P2 2008 is a collector's Champagne with outstanding aging potential and a perfect match for fine seafood, shellfish, and elegant gastronomy.

Magical, showing floral perfumes of jasmine, lavender and orange blossoms. The wonderful center palate has medium body and a depth of fruit that goes on for minutes. Dried apples, limes and flowers. Oyster shell and umami. This has developed beautifully with 16 years on the lees. Stunning. Dosage 4.5 g/L. Drink now.

The extra seven years of ageing on lees under cork versus the original Dom Pérignon 2008 release has wrapped up all the year's innate tension and brightness in an unabashedly decadent, enveloping richnnes of toasted nuts, fresh dough and gentle oyster cream, although the precision and integrity of the vintage is absolutely present, too. There are beautiful aromas of pure red strawberry and bergamot with some darker mocha notes emerging, both Chardonnay linearity and a surprisingly fragrant Pinot finding a perfect equilibrium. The palate carries the buzzing acidity of 2008 on a time-softened, ultra-silky mousse, with new details of umami savour tucked in subtly to the overall impression of glacial freshness. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the reputation of the original release, this is among the most memorable and energetic of the Plénitude releases made since the programme of late releases took the name in 2014.

A statuesque Champagne, with creamy viscosity to the mousse as it wraps around a frame of chiseled acidity. Crème de cassis, grilled macadamia nut, warm fig, tangerine peel, pastry cream and candied ginger notes are a rich and finely detailed weave of flavors that glides across the palate. A beauty, echoing fruit, spice and pastry elements, with an underlying streak of salinity on the long, long finish. Drink now through 2048.

A wine I’m inclined to call “long-range,” the 2008 Dom Pérignon Plénitude 2—an equal blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, disgorged in March 2024 with a dosage of five grams per liter—has fulfilled its considerable promise. Born of a cool, slow-ripening season that endowed the wine with its incisive acid spine and raciness, perfected through the selection of origins that contribute the texture and plenitude only real maturity can impart, it wafts from the glass with aromas of orange, nashi pear, honeysuckle and toasted hazelnut, mingling with brioche and a touch of smoky reduction. On the palate, it is full-bodied, multifaceted and vividly bright, with a layered, concentrated core of fruit, its ripe yet racy acids and pinpoint mousse carrying it to a long, searingly chalky finish.

If the 1996 Plénitude 2 was a success at Dom Pérignon, then the 2008 Plénitude 2 appears to surpass that, ranking among the greatest achievements of Richard Geoffroy, the house’s former cellar master. All in all, it is more energetic and incisive than the 2002 Plénitude 2 was on release, and anyone fortunate enough to secure a bottle will have no difficulty finishing it.

Dom Pérignon Vintage is patiently elevated to a new summit of expression.
We call this elevation Plénitude 2.

After close to 15 years in the darkness of the cellar, expansion of energy reaches its peak and the wine rises to an apex of essential, radiant vitality. Elevated to new heights, Dom Pérignon's uniqueness sings out higher and clearer than ever before.

    - 2006 -

Dom Pérignon Vintage 2008 Plénitude 2 reconnects with the year 2008. At each step of its evolution, this vintage redefines the champagne classic, by giving it more substance, length and complexity.

    Season
A year of "Late Champenois Miracle"
2008 was dominated by grey, overcast skies – an exception in a decade characterized by bold, generous sunshine. Spring and summer brought the same lack of sunlight and absence of high temperatures. It was September that saved the vintage, belatedly and miraculously. Just when the harvest was getting underway (on September 15), the weather conditions were finally perfect: blue skies and prolonged north-northeasterly winds.
Picking was spread out over a long period in order to benefit from this positive turn of events. The grapes were riper than anyone dared hope, and had truly outstanding balance.

With Dom Pérignon Vintage 2008 Plénitude 2, Dom Pérignon approaches the 2008 vintage in a new way, reinterpreting this classic Champagne with even greater depth, length, and complexity. The so-called "Champagne miracle" of the vintage laid the foundation for a wine of exceptional precision, freshness, and radiant elegance, whose aromatic expressiveness and finish are further intensified by the second Plénitude. This moment takes on added significance, as the declaration of the 2008 vintage coincided with the handover between the two Cellar Masters, Richard Geoffroy and Vincent Chaperon. It marks the culmination of their collaboration and the expression of a shared vision.

    Nose & palate
    Enveloping and delicate
Dom Pérignon Vintage 2008 Plénitude 2 has widened. As it lands on the tongue, its edges are climbing up the palate, fulling a more complete tactile space. The acid frame is entwined with bitter and umami hints, as if it was braided, hence becoming more consistant. It unfurls like the Kanagawa wave, scintillating, radiating, lilting. Candied lemon, bergamot, white peach, cocoa, roasted coffee. Its freshness is vibrant as well as silky, with a solar presence, slightly iodized.

    Food & wine pairing
Dom Pérignon Vintage 2008 Plénitude 2 is distinguished by its soft, warm character, ideally expressed when paired with seafood such as langoustine and scallops. This wine pairing harmony continues with veal and Jerusalem artichoke dishes, which highlight its delicate, enveloping nature. The flavours are further enhanced by herbs such as rosemary and basil, while hints of acidity from lemon and bergamot fully reveal its breadth and refined structure. This vintage illustrates Dom Pérignon’s ability to create fine wines that capture and enhance the essence of the ingredients with which they are served.
