Made by the Cheval Blanc team, this Saint-Émilion Grand Cru is smooth, elegant, and super drinkable. With floral notes, fresh berries, and a touch of spice, it’s got great balance and silky tannins. A cool, refined Bordeaux with just enough structure to age—though it’s tasting great now.

Aromas of flowers, stones and hints of tobacco. Medium-bodied, very fine and pretty. The 18% cabernet sauvignon and 13% cabernet franc make the difference. Coolest Quinault ever. Drink or hold.

The 2014 Quinault l'Enclos, which was the first vintage to utilize larger 500-liter barrels and also the first to utilize the newly planted Cabernet Sauvignon to lend structure. Now in bottle, this Saint Emilion has an attractive bouquet with brambly red berry fruit, predominantly raspberry preserve and a touch of loganberries. The oak here is neatly folded into the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with soft tannin on the entry. Although the Cabernet Sauvignon does lend more backbone, I was quite surprised how approachable this Quinault l'Enclos is, partly because of the growing season. It is certainly harmonious, without enormous depth or grip, the dash of black pepper on the finish a pleasing way to finish off.

Same team as Cheval Blanc. The new benchmark for this wine. Fragrant and floral. Gentle texture and tannins. Linear, fresh and digest.

Tasted blind. Looks a little thin at the rim. Smells herbal. Good front palate attack and not overdone. Some may reproach this for being too simple but the balance is good. Very clean and healthy.

    Chateau-cheval-blanc.com

Château Quinault L’Enclos was acquired in 2008 as a project to stimulate and challenge Cheval Blanc. From the outset, this urban vineyard benefitted from the same attention and expertise as its older brother.
With 65% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Cabernet Franc, the varieties planted at Château Quinault L’Enclos express perfectly the gravel characteristics of its soils. They also bring rich diversity and complexity which, from 2024, will be accentuated by the introduction to the blend of a small percentage of Malbec. The profile is deep and delicate with crafted, sumptuous and rounded tannins. The ‘length of the depth’ characterises this wine which is open and expressive from an early age, even if the wine is produced for ageing.
