The 2025 Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is showing well, opening in the glass with notes of cassis, blackberries, cigar wrapper and iris, becoming more fragrant with aeration. Medium- to full-bodied, deep and layered, with plenty of powdery tannin that asserts itself on the youthfully structured finish, it's a blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc.

Deep crimson. Extremely refined aroma of black fruit and lead pencils, pure blackcurrant and a nicely dusty-stony overlay, like crushed stones. Elegant, chalky-fine tannins. This has great finesse and could be approached in relative youth. It doesn’t seem to be particularly powerful but I think it is there behind the beguiling finesse. (JH)
