Château Duhart-Milon 2002 is a refined Pauillac from a challenging vintage, showing elegance and classic Left Bank structure. With 73% Cabernet Sauvignon and 27% Merlot, it offers aromas of red berries, cedar, graphite, and a hint of spice. The palate is balanced and lithe, with silky tannins, a touch of austerity, and a poised, peppery finish. Now drinking beautifully, it captures the finesse of its terroir and the restraint of the vintage.

Tasted blind at Farr's 2002 Bordeaux tasting. Very elegant and refined on the nose: bright red-berried fruit, raspberry and wild strawberry entwined with cedar-wood and graphite. Very well balanced on the palate: natural and just the right amount of austerity with black pepper and pencil lead. Very fine tannins, feminine, lithe, beautifully poised on the finish. Lovely. Tasted October 2009.

A firm wine with cedar, coffee and berry character. Medium-bodied, with firm, silky tannins and a medium finish. Pretty. Best after 2008. 20,000 cases made.

    Lafite.com

Château Duhart-Milon is a neighbouring property of Château Lafite Rothschild and was acquired by Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite in 1962. Oral tradition presents “Sieur Duhart” as a privateer of Louis XV who settled in Pauillac in his retirement and whose house on the port of Pauillac inspired the label of Duhart-Milon wines. The 1855 classification elevated Château Duhart-Milon to the rank of the only 4th Grand Cru Classé in the commune of Pauillac.

Château Duhart-Milon wine leaves its mark like a trace in living matter. It reveals the veins of the passing of time like grooves in the soil of Pauillac. It is the truth of the land that speaks through those who understand it.

Moulin de Duhart, the second wine, is selected from the same vines, generally younger than the average vineyard, and is aged in barrels for a shorter period. Its name originates from a mill that used to be found on the Carruades plateau, adjacent to the Duhart-Milon vineyard.

    - 2002 -

73% Cabernet Sauvignon and 27% Merlot
The growing season was closely monitored, coming after a severe winter and some spring frost. Flowering was not very productive, constant humidity favoured disease and the summer was moderately warm. Fortunately, September was fine and so it was possible to wait for the grapes to fully ripen, with late harvests.

    TASTING NOTES (AT BOTTLING)
Expressive, heady, open nose. Notes of very ripe, very red fruit. Excellent body, after a fine complex attack. Very rounded, long finish, with a touch of spice.
