Chateau Batailley Pauillac 2011 750ml

This 2011 delivers far more than the vintage suggests. Deep, dark, and classically structured, it opens with cassis, cedar, and earthy spice. Now hitting its stride, it’s rich, refined, and built to last—a hidden gem for traditional Bordeaux lovers.

An attractive nose of creme de cassis, earth and oak jumps from the glass of this dense ruby/purple-colored wine. A classic, impressive effort from the Casteja family, this 2011 transcends the vintage character, and is an unqualified success as well as a major sleeper of the vintage. Structured, rich, medium to full-bodied, pure and layered, it should be at its finest in 3-4 years, and keep for two decades.

A dense wine for the vintage with walnut, berry and currant character. Full body with integrated tannins and a refined finish. Very fine indeed. Extremely well crafted for the vintage. Better in 2017.

Pauillac wines have a deep colour.
These wines are potent and robust, particularly during blending, where the power of sauvignon prevails.
The tannin structure resulting from this process gives these wines incredible ageing capacity.
By adding merlot to the blend, Pauillac wines are well-rounded and fruity. After ageing, these wins become highly complex.
Our first wine, designated AOC Pauillac, and categorised as Cinquième Grand Cru Classé since 1855, is a typical Pauillac wine.
This dark ruby wine smells sophisticated, rich and intense when opened, with a powerful nose of black- and red-fruit aromas. In the mouth, its robust, balanced flavour shines through, with pronounced notes of blackcurrant and spices and a long, captivating finish.
Considered an excellent wine of guard, it ages extremely well and can be kept for many years before use.

TASTING
Chateau Batailley 2011 is of very dark purple colour and has a still reticent nose of blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar wood, smoky earth and liquorish. Abundant tannins that today (2018) still need some aeration to open up, with a very medium to full-bodied structure on the palate, it is dense with very good depth, complexity and a long finish. Very classic Batailley.
