A wine with attractive dark fruit, hazelnut and cedar character. Medium body, round and chewy tannins and a medium finish. Needs a year or two to soften. Better in 2016.

From Baron Edmond de Rothschild, this blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a large 125-plus-acre estate in Listrac and is well made in 2012. Dark ruby/purple, with notes of blackcurrants, new saddle leather, earth and spice, the wine is medium-bodied and concentrated, with relatively light tannin. Drink it over the next 10 years.
