The Balvenie Double Wood Single Malt Whisky 12Yrs 700ml
Balvenie Double Wood 12 Year Old is a beautifully crafted single malt, aged in refill American oak casks before being finished in first-fill European oak Sherry casks. This process creates a well-balanced whisky that showcases the skill of the Balvenie distillery.
Distillery
Aged in refill American oak casks before being finished in first fill European oak Sherry casks, DoubleWood is an excellent example of what the Balvenie distillery can craft, even at 12 years.
Nose: Gristy, supple nuttiness intertwined with spices. Honeyed sultanas and grapes. Hugely inviting.
Palate: Sweet with good body. The bourbon characters develop; gentle spice with a little vanilla, a hint of balancing peat lurking quietly in the substrata. Dried fruit too, combining with nuts, nutmeg, cinnamon, back into the bourbon notes - so well integrated.
Finish: Spicy, slightly drying, still sweet.
Overall: A classic, always a pleasure to revisit.
The Balvenie 16 Year Old Pineau des Charentes Cask Finish is a refined single malt from Balvenie's Cask Finishes range. Initially matured in American oak casks, it is then finished in French oak casks that previously held Pineau des Charentes, adding unique depth to its character.
