The 2006 Château Duhart-Milon is a structured wine with a somewhat muted nose and a gritty, graphite-infused palate. While the black fruit flavors are broody, the finish feels tight. This wine will benefit from a few more years of aging and decanting. It showcases solid structure and has good potential, though it remains a bit wild and brawny at this stage.

The 2006 Chateau Duhart-Milon displayed a comparatively muted nose that does not really escape from the glass, despite encouragement (somewhat typical of Duhart in its first ten years). The palate is gritty and hard with plenty of graphite infusing the broody black fruit at the moment, though the finish feels rather pinched. Give this another 2-3 years and plenty of decanting. Tasted April 2016.

Château Duhart-Milon is a neighbouring property of Château Lafite Rothschild and was acquired by Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite in 1962. Oral tradition presents “Sieur Duhart” as a privateer of Louis XV who settled in Pauillac in his retirement and whose house on the port of Pauillac inspired the label of Duhart-Milon wines. The 1855 classification elevated Château Duhart-Milon to the rank of the only 4th Grand Cru Classé in the commune of Pauillac.

Château Duhart-Milon wine leaves its mark like a trace in living matter. It reveals the veins of the passing of time like grooves in the soil of Pauillac. It is the truth of the land that speaks through those who understand it.

Moulin de Duhart, the second wine, is selected from the same vines, generally younger than the average vineyard, and is aged in barrels for a shorter period. Its name originates from a mill that used to be found on the Carruades plateau, adjacent to the Duhart-Milon vineyard.

70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot
The climate was full of contrasts with a cold wet winter, a fine spring and a summer with alternating hot and cool periods. Mid-September brought a stormy spell. Meticulous attention was needed to obtain healthy, ripe grapes.

TASTING NOTES (AT BOTTLING)
Beautiful dark garnet-red colour. Discreet camphor notes on the nose, toasted aromas with a nice structure. Plenty of potential for this wine.
