Henri Giraud Champagne Esprit Nature NV 750ml
SKU: CHFR00NV0252
A refined, Pinot Noir–dominant Champagne from Aÿ with a slightly softer mousse that gives a creamy, velvety feel on the palate. Barrel fermentation and a high proportion of reserve wines add depth and complexity, layering orchard fruits, citrus zest, white peach, and hints of strawberry with notes of brioche, toast, almond, and subtle spice. Medium- to full-bodied and vinous, it balances freshness with richness, finishing long, smooth, and gently tangy.

The creamy texture is so enticing on the palate, because it intentionally has slightly less bubbles, with light strawberry and brioche and a hint of tangerine. Medium body with a pretty core of fruit and a fine, velvety finish. Base wine all fermented in barrel. 30% reserve wine and the base is 2020. 80% pinot noir and 20% chardonnay. Drink now.

Sourced from the Montagne de Reims and the Grande Vallée—with a notable proportion originating from Aÿ—the latest iteration of NV Esprit Nature is composed of two-thirds base wine from the 2021 vintage, complemented by the remainder from a perpetual reserve established in 1990. Vinified in seasoned oak barrels (three to six years old, previously used for MV and Argonne) and disgorged in February 2024 with a dosage of five grams per liter, it opens with aromas of yellow apple, lemon zest and white peach, mingling with toasted bread undertones and a hint of wormwood. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, vinous and taut, boasting tangy acidity, a pillowy mousse and a long, persistent finish.

Pretty smart nose. And just the right balance on the sprightly palate. Not ridiculously overpriced. Satisfying with some toastiness. (JR)
