Ready to Drink, Cellar 5+ Years
    Sangiovese 100%
    Dry

Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2020 is a classic expression of one of Italy's most prestigious wines, crafted from 100% Sangiovese in the renowned Montalcino region of Tuscany. Produced by one of Brunello's longest-established estates, this highly acclaimed vintage combines ripe fruit, refined structure, and exceptional balance. Aged for three years in large oak casks before further bottle maturation, it reveals layers of cherry, blackcurrant, licorice, herbs, leather, and earthy spice, supported by silky tannins and vibrant acidity. Awarded up to 96 points by leading wine critics, Il Poggione Brunello 2020 is an outstanding choice for collectors, fine dining, or anyone seeking an authentic, age-worthy Brunello di Montalcino.

The nose is both perfumed and spicy, with aromas of cloves, coffee, vanilla bean and black cherry. Flavors of tart blackberry, bergamot and flaky salt define the palate, before a touch of mocha creeps onto the finish. Tannins are polished, but grippy. — Danielle Callegari

Showing very nice results, with greater accessibility in this vintage, the Il Poggione 2020 Brunello di Montalcino has dark fruit aromas with blackcurrant followed by something spicy or herbal. I am reminded of licorice root, exotic spice, pressed rose and fragrant tea leaf. It finishes smoothly with silky tannins and an open-knit approach. This vintage is almost ready to drink, and you get elegant complexity at the same time. It sees three years in oak botti. Fruit is sourced across vineyards with 25-year-old-plus vines. This is an ample production of 200,000 bottles.

A restrained mix of licorice and graphite, bright red cherries and toasted notes. Firm tannins on the medium- to full-bodied palate with refreshing acidity. Chewy style overall. Try in 2025, but best after 2026.

Stretching southward from Sant’Angelo in Colle, Il Poggione’s 140 hectares of vineyards rise from 120m to 430m above sea level. Vines with a minimum 25 years of age are singled out for the Brunello. A sun-soaked nose of macerated cherry and nutmeg is offset by porcini and leather. This has all the generosity and lushness of the south, with dusty tannins folded in to give shape. Dense red fruit is punctuated by sweet, dried herbs and the finish offers a saline twist. There is a lot of wine here, but it is impeccably balanced.

After a careful fermentation at controlled temperature, Tenuta Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino is aged in French oak barrels.
