The 2022 Charlie's Garden Shiraz is classically Eden Valley, pulling together the threads of DNA that runs between these Garden Shiraz wines. Each expresses the clear identity of the places from which they spring, and here, the Eden Valley shines through in the crushed quartz, leather strap, raspberry pip, licorice, raw cocoa, grated nutmeg and graphite. It's an elegant wine that manages thrust and dry power alongside nuance and detail. 14.4% alcohol, sealed under Diam.

AROMA | The aromas leap out of the glass, cola, sage, cardamon, violet, eucalyptus, mocha, cherry, blackcurrants, flora.
PALATE | The palate hits with energy, focused and linear, launching into a band of explosive dark fruits that take off. Fresh blackberry notes add brightness, while complex layers of dried violet, pipe smoke, and cracked black peppercorns amplify through to the finish. The fruit is delicious and concentrated,
rebounding across the tongue with a soft reverberating acidity that reveals a minerally edge in the tannins. When they emerge, they penetrate deeply, creating a soft and silky texture. This is a serious bottling that evolves gently while sitting in the glass, showcasing a remarkable depth to the tannins. While this wine will age beautifully under the right conditions in a cellar, it’s already immensely enjoyable upon release.
The Growing Season:
After our second La Niña year in a row, the vineyards received an above average winter rainfall, we then progressed into a very mild spring and an equally mild summer with only one day recorded over 40°C. Due to slightly later flowering, the vines were set up to mature at a slower than usual pace, this put the start of vintage back around 3 weeks on average, these mild ripening conditions allowed for slower than usual favour development, this matched with lower yield across the board has resulted in another quality harvest.
