Trimbach Riesling Selection de Vieilles Vignes 2022 750ml

Bright, juicy, and full of character, this dry Riesling comes from old vines in some of Alsace’s top sites. You’ll taste ripe stone fruits like peach and quince, with a crisp, clean finish that keeps it super refreshing. Even though it’s full of flavor, it still feels light on its feet—perfect for seafood, roast chicken, or just a chilled glass on its own. It’s a great example of why Trimbach has been a benchmark for Riesling for generations.

Ripe Mirabelle plum, quince and peach aromas fill out this generous and juicy dry riesling that is so sensuous, but also incredibly clean and precise. Still only medium-bodied in spite of the hot and dry vintage. Terrific depth in the very long, crisp finish, which is exactly what we expect from old vines. A cuvee of wines from Hunawihr, Ribeauville and Bergheim, including several Grand Cru sites. Drink from release.

From 60+-year-old vines in the Hunawihr grand cru Rosacker, the Muehlforst and the "Petit Geisberg" (Vorderer Hagenau) in Ribeauvillé, the 2022 Riesling Vieilles Vignes offers a fine, intense and seriously intense nose of perfectly ripe fruits intertwined with saline and refreshing limestone and spicy phenolic notes. Rich but elegant and refined on the palate, this is a full-bodied, generous and quite powerful but also delicately lush and round, always refined, stimulating and saline Riesling with some Muscat-like flavors on the finish. This has 14% stated alcohol with nine grams per liter of residual sugar that don't show up as sweet but as fully ripe and seductive fruit. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2024.

BACKGROUND
The Trimbach's have a purist vision. For three centuries and across 13 generations, the family has produced wines that are structured, longlived, fruity, elegant and balanced: the celebrated Trimbach style. The family personally looks after each operation, from planting to harvests and from vinification to bottling. The viticultural origin of the Trimbach family dates back to 1626, when Jean Trimbach, was recognized as a citizen of Riquewihr. From then on, the Trimbach's were renowned for their wine-growing. Maison Trimbach's vineyards are all situated around Ribeauville (Ribeauville, Hunawihr, Bergheim, Rorschwihr, Riquewihr and Mittlewihr). They benefit from the unique Alsatian microclimate, thanks to the Vosges Mountains protection, which preserves the plain from the rain. The vineyards were planted on the Ribeauville's fault line that fractured 50 million years ago between the Vosges Mountain range and the Black Forest offering a mosaic of terroirs including the complex calcareous limestone and bio-degraded seashell fossils called Muschelkalk.
WINEMAKING & VINTAGE NOTES
The vines are 50 years old from Ribeauvill's top sites such as Grand Cru Rosacker and the highly regarded Muhlforst. Soils are marl and limestone. Handpicked as late as possible in order to achieve maximum ripeness, which in turn, gives optimum depth of flavor and complexity. The grapes are pressed very gently in a pneumatic press. The juice ferments in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats for 3 to 4 weeks.
The wine is not oak-aged, and is vinified to complete dryness with no residual sugar. Bottling is done early to preserve freshness, and the wine rests in bottle in the cellar for several years before reaching the marketplace, ensuring the wine is both ready to drink upon release but also can be cellared.
TASTING NOTES
Elegant, dry and precise. Pairs best with shell-fish, seafood, pork, poultry, veal and pastas.
