Petit Figeac St-Emilion 2018 750ml

The 2018 Petit-Figeac is a great example of a second wine that doesn’t hold back on quality or personality. With inviting notes of plum, cedar, and forest-floor, it’s elegant and well-structured without being overpowering. Silky tannins and fresh acidity make it a smooth, enjoyable wine now, but it also has the depth to age gracefully for years. A lovely Bordeaux that balances charm and class perfectly.

The plum, cedar, mushroom, forest-floor and sandalwood aromas are so enticing. It’s full-bodied, yet ever so fine and caressing with lovely tannins. Long and energetic at the finish. Lots of elegance and structure here. Nicely done. Try after 2024.

Sporting a medium to deep garnet-purple color, the 2018 Petit-Figeac has a very pretty nose of Black Forest cake, mulberries and raspberry leaves, leading to suggestions of cinnamon stick, rose oil and tilled soil. The medium-bodied palate has all the class of its big brother, Figeac, if slightly less intensity and layers, offering soft, skillfully managed tannins and seamless freshness to support the earth-laced black fruit layers, finishing long and earthy. This is an impressive second wine that really does have the same compelling personality of the grand vin!

The nose is lean, precise and nicely perfumed, with blackberry and mint aromas. The attack is sleek and silky, with bright acidity and a light tannic backbone. Well balanced, but it does lack some depth and persistence, and in their place offers elegance and charm. Quite long.

Since the 1945 vintage Chateau Figeac has produced a second wine, created by Thierry Manoncourt, who was one of the first Bordeaux winegrowers to impose strict selection based on quality. Ranamed Petit-Figeac from the 2012 vintage, it has always been made solely from grapes grown on the Chateau-Figeac estate.
