A little went into this, but the majority was from Padthaway (30%) along with McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley and Wrattonbully. Consequently it is not as beguiling as usual, though still well constructed, thanks to cool acidity, firm tannins and 12 months in French oak (21% new) and American oak (11%) hogsheads. Under the coffee and vanilla oak cloak, the blackberry and cassis fruit showcases a herbal edge – mint, menthol and jalapeno – but also a tight-knit mineral core of ink, tarmac, black pepper and pencil lead.
