This Chambolle from Patrice Rion is all about elegance and finesse. Made from old vines planted on a mix of clay and limestone soils, it brings together richness and freshness in perfect balance. You'll notice delicate red fruit aromas with hints of cocoa and a touch of eucalyptus. On the palate, it’s smooth and refined with just enough structure to give it depth, finishing long and graceful. It’s delicious now, but a little patience will make it even better. Perfect with roast chicken, game birds, or simply enjoyed on its own.

    Burgundy Report
Tasted in Rion, 28 November, 2019

A vibrant, higher-toned nose, though it needs to work on its elegance. Fine, direct and fresh in the mouth – ooh, that’s a super, driving delivery of flavour – the merest suggestion of tannin, then a very fine finish – this is the most delicious yet here – a wine that needs a bit more elevage/patience but already shows delicious facets – should be excellent.

Chambolle wines are above all models of elegance and finesse. Though only medium-colored, they emanate voluminous aromas of raspberry, crystallized strawberries, violets and forest undergrowth. In body, these wines are marked by fine tannins and their associated unctuousness. Light in acid, the wines are notable for their meatiness, and the 1ers Crus are highly concentrated.

This wine is characterized by its extreme finesse, depth and silky, elegant tannic structure. Its individual personality comes from the great age of the vines.

    The vineyard
Vineyard placement and geology : Two parcels combine to produce this wine. The first is at the bottom of the slope on fairly deep clay soil; the second at the top of the hill on mostly limestone soil. It’s the combination of the two terroirs that makes the whole greater than the sum of its parts.

Vine age : 50 years on average

Yield and production : 35-45 hl/ha for an average annual production of 3000 bottles.

    The wine
    Vinification
Hand-harvested and scrupulously sorted, the wine is fermented in open stainless steel tanks for around three weeks, then matured in oak barrels, about 50% new, for 18 months.

    Tasting notes
To the eye, the wine is a fairly lightly colored, but with flashes of brilliant sparkles at the edge.
On the nose, aromas of cocoa and eucalyptus mingle with small red fruits and redcurrants.
On the palate, its concentration doesn’t detract from its finesse, with a tannic structure that is there, but very discreet. Above all, it’s the wine’s length on both the nose and palate that characterize this delicate appellation

    Drinking tips
Its elegance and finesse permit this win to go with more delicate meat dishes, such as roast pigeon or guinea hen, or other feathered game.
Serve at around 16C-17C. Will age well for 3-8 years.
