Montes Alpha M 2019 750ml

Montes Alpha M 2019 is a bold and elegant Chilean red with rich dark fruits, spicy pepper, and smooth cedar notes. It’s got a tight, structured palate with plenty of creamy tannins and a long finish. Definitely worth letting it breathe before enjoying, and it can age beautifully for years to come.

Deep nose, but really fresh at the same time. Currants, blackberries and chili-pepper chocolate with cedary and meaty undertones. This is really juicy, with a tight, tensely framed palate, underscored by lots of creamy, dusty tannins. A lengthy, refined and elegant expression of cabernet sauvignon, but a strong statement from Colchagua. Drink or hold.

Aged 18 months in 80% new French oak, the 2019 Alpha M offers a red-fruited and spice-driven nose accented with dried tobacco and a touch of toasted wood. It reflects the warmer harvest on the palate, with an assertive but balanced texture that transitions to a structured, drying and slightly introverted finish. Readers looking to enjoy this in the near future would do well to let it open up for a good hour or so before consuming.
The substantial Montes portfolio spans traditionally rich, seductive wines such as Purple Angel and Alpha M labels, an accessible range of bottlings under the Alpha line, and the more contemporary, linear Outer Limits range. Along with purchased fruit sources, production centers around their Colchagua estates in Apalta and Marchigüe, while the Outer Limits bottlings derive from the Zapallar site in Aconcagua Costa. Across the range are consistent, dependable and widely distributed bottlings that have done much to raise the profile of Chile among international markets.

80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot. RS 3.49 g/l.
Significantly fresher and more lifted acid than the rest of the Montes portfolio with a bright passion-fruit lift to the cassis. The tannins are high, round and drying. Pyrazines are elegant and cedary oak is really well integrated for how young this is. Finish is long… this is nowhere near ready to drink. Despite rich fruit not usually being my go-to, I love this wine and very much hope I'll get to taste it again later in its life.

The production of Montes Alpha M is extremely limited and vintages are only released if our head winemaker, Aurelio Montes considers the quality of the wine to be of a good enough standard. Production starts by selecting individual grapes at harvest time. This wine, from Colchagua Valley, is one of the best and most awarded Chilean wines.
Tasting Notes
The nose is perfumed and complex with outstanding aromas of ripe red and black fruits over subtle notes of crème de cassis, tobacco, and leather. Spice aromas of red and black pepper mingle with cinnamon and dark chocolate notes. In palate is smooth but structured, with silky tannins
