This superb single malt combines first-fill sherry-seasoned American oak quarter casks, refill butts, and European oak hogsheads, resulting in a whisky of natural deep copper colour, bottled at 46% ABV. Each cask contributes unique layers of flavour — from the creamy sweetness of crème brûlée and cloudy honey, to apricot compote, toasted cinnamon, crushed almonds, and lime zest. The finish lingers with smoked lemons, sweet violets, and delicate heathered peat smoke, reflecting both the artistry of maturation and the wild spirit of Orkney.

Deliciously fruity and deep, the 2024 release of Highland Park 21 is crafted from just 48 casks—25 first-fill, sherry-seasoned American oak quarter casks, 15 refill butts and 8 first-fill, sherry-seasoned European hogsheads—all hand-selected and laid down in 2001 and 2002. By combining three different cask types, our Master Whisky Maker Gordon Motion has created a superb single malt Scotch whisky with a natural deep copper colour direct from the cask that’s both satisfyingly rich and intriguingly complex.

The flavour

Layers upon complex layers of flavour. Creamy sweetness of crème brûlée on the nose with notes of cloudy honey and crumbled cinnamon. On the palate, apricot compote mingles with crushed almonds and lime zest. The finish has a lingering tang of smoked lemons and subtle smoke from our Orkney heathered peat.

The craft

Matured in only 48 casks laid down between 2001 and 2002, including lightly sweet first-fill, sherry-seasoned American oak quarter casks, for intense vanilla and citrus fruit flavours, with European Oak hogsheads delivering warm spice and dried fruit. We selected a few refill casks to add floral sweetness to balance the influence of oak from the first-fill casks.
Bottled at a marrying strength of 46% for a rich and full-bodied finish.
