Disznoko Aszu 5 Puttonoyos Tokaji 2014 500ml
The Disznókő Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos 2014 is a luxurious expression of Hungary’s famed botrytized sweet wine tradition. With 75% Furmint, 15% Zéta, and 10% Hárslevelű aszú grapes, it offers an amber-hued pour bursting with aromas of yellow peach, apricot, dried mango, and delicate floral notes, accented by honey, caramel, and exotic spices. On the palate, it is rich, creamy, and elegantly structured, delivering stone fruit, blood orange, almond, and subtle oolong tea flavors, all balanced by vivid acidity and a long, lingering finish.

Ripe yellow peach and delicate floral aromas leap out of each amber-hued pour. On the elegantly structured palate, expect rich stone fruit, blood orange, and almond flavors, followed by an epically long finish.

Attractive aromas of dried apricots and dried mangoes with hints of caramel, fresh honey, exotic spice and dried orange. It’s dense and creamy with vivid acidity coming through. Rich but not overly sweet, with hints of oolong tea and orange blossom at the end. Delicious. Drink or hold.

Characteristics of the vintage
After a hot and rainy summer, 2014 was a complex harvest in Tokaj. High humidity caused noble rot to start on nearly all the berries quite early. It required a lot of very careful selection. The overall volume is low, but from that the proportion of aszú wines is high. 2014 wines are refreshing, tonic, with higher acidity than usually, but with a certain weight on the palate.
The Terroir
The intensely botrytised aszú berries were selected during 3 passages. We started on September 4th for Zéta grapes followed by Furmint grapes on September 18th. We finished the third selective picking on October 29th. The majority of the aszú grapes came from the second selective picking. Each aszúberry was individually picked and then stored in stainless steel vats until vinification.
Vinification
Around 75% of the aszú berries were macerated in a finished wine for half a day. The most shrivelled aszú berries were soaked in a heavily fermenting must for 2days for their skin contact, with several pumping overs. After pressing the fermentation took place in stainless steel vats.
Grape varieties
Aszú berries: 69% Furmint, 25% Zéta, 6% Hárslevelű
Base wine: 50% Furmint, 50% Hárslevelű
Maturing
The wine was aged for 18 monthsin oak barrels of 225 litres, mostly in oak barrels of several vintages.
Bottled inAugust 2017.
Tasting notes
Golden colour. The nose has intense botrytis character with spicy, aromatic herb like dill, citrusy, fresh plum, mint aromas. Very fresh on the palate, with high acidity, but also a rich, powerful wine with good presence in the mouth and with very good length.
