Chateau Pontet Canet Pauillac 2015 750ml

A biodynamic Pauillac of extraordinary depth and finesse, the 2015 Pontet-Canet is already being hailed as a modern classic. Layers of blackberry, cassis, plum and cherry mingle with violets, tobacco, spice and earthy minerality, wrapped in ultra-fine tannins and remarkable freshness. Full-bodied yet beautifully balanced, it delivers both power and grace, with incredible length and complexity. Critically acclaimed this is a grand vin built for the ages—opulent now, but with decades of cellaring potential ahead.

So much floral and dark-fruit character with almonds and walnut shell. Full body and ultra-fine tannins. Powerful. Classic style with a harmony and energy. Goes on for minutes. A superb wine with great fruit. Real Bordeaux. Try in 2025.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Pontet-Canet comes charging out of the glass with fantastically expressive notes of black cherry preserves, black raspberries and blackcurrant pastilles plus touches of kirsch, wilted roses, tobacco, camphor and cinnamon stick with a waft of fragrant soil. Full bodied, the palate is laden with black and red fruit layers, supported by very firm, very finely grained tannins and provocative freshness, finishing with incredible length and stunningly perfumed.

Succulent fruits, rich tannins and juicy acidity are in perfect harmony in this wine produced from biodynamic grapes. It has a rich, velvet texture and dense structure, sumptuous and already balanced and delicious. However do not be fooled, this is a serious wine for aging. Drink no earlier than 2026.

Ruby with a purple rim, no second wine made starting with this vintage. More expressive and opulent aromatics than in 2014, with ripe red and black fruit. The irresistible, juicy palate with creamy texture recalls the 2010, but lacks the same tension and structure. It resembles the 2009, enjoyed over lunch after the morning vertical, but with more focus and fruit purity, including primary blackberry, plum and cassis. Long finish. Aged 50% new oak , 35% amphora.
Closure: Cork
Alcohol: 13.50%
Body: Full
Oak: Oaked
Grapes: 4% Cabernet Franc 65% Cabernet Sauvignon 30% Merlot

Tasted blind. Classic Cabernet nose. Quite rich and fresh. Sharp edges and quite a bit of tannin – and potential.

Each year in Bordeaux is unique, truly not resembling any other. Like any child, a wine has two parents: a father-terroir and a mother-vintage. It will have something of both, but above all it must be itself.
At the end of the day, the biodynamic approach has brought a new dimension to our wines. It has given them greater depth while producing more precise and silky tannins. The length of flavour on the palate has gained in minerality. Our wines are purer and more vibrant. Our feeling is that biodynamic farming has made us respect nature better. And the more we respect it, the more it will give us.
- 2015 -
2015 began with a wet winter and a rather damp May. Flowering started slowly because the weather was not warm enough but accelerated rapidly with the sudden return of the sun. The change of weather continued with two months of uninterrupted heat and drought, unusual for the region. Like a blessing from heaven, a few showers arrived in mid-August. The hot and dry weather then resumed until mid-September. Despite a considerable amount of rain from mid-September, the grapes remained in wonderfully good health because the skins, thickened by the summer heat and our vineyard practices, withstood the conditions perfectly.
Tasting - The wine has an impressively intense colour and a complex nose dominated by fresh fruit aromas. It is huge on the palate, powerful, vibrant and incredibly smooth, sustained throughout by a freshness which imparts a deliciously succulent finish. There is a bracing energy to this wine. People will long write up the virtues of this 2015 as a wine for the long haul.
