Chateau Moulin Riche by Leoville Poyferre St-Julien 2017 750ml

From a distinct 20-hectare parcel in Saint-Julien, this Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant blend delivers juicy notes of currant, blackberry, and dark chocolate. Full-bodied and savory, it shows surprising depth and structure for the vintage. While approachable, firm tannins suggest aging potential. Drink from 2023 through 2034.

A juicy, fruity red with currants, blackberries and black chocolate. Full-bodied, round and juicy. Flavorful and savory. Plenty going on here for the vintage. Well done. Better after 2022.

This is a little austere, showing some enjoyable cassis, redcurrant and peony notes, and a richly textured expression with some good tightness that suggests it can age well. An approachable feel at this stage that is perhaps a little deceptive, because the tannins are fairly fierce.

Further west, in the Saint-Julien area, Château Moulin Riche is made from a single block of 20 hectares. It is this terroir, unique and different from that of Léoville Poyferré, which inspired its revival, guided by the intuition of Didier Cuvelier. The wines express the generosity and freshness of the Saint-Julien terroir.
