The 2024 Château Margaux is a triumph of precision and poise, shaped by a demanding vintage and a Cabernet Sauvignon-driven blend (93%). It delivers remarkable aromatic finesse—violets, blackcurrant, iris—and a sleek, silken texture. With vibrant acidity, layered concentration, and elegant tannins, it captures the essence of Margaux: purity, grace, and quiet power. Only 46% of the estate’s harvest made the Grand Vin, underscoring its exceptional selectivity.

Really impressive depth, concentration and perfume this year, with fine tannins. Lots of violets, red flowers, black cherries and currants. Full-bodied and seriously structured, with impeccable freshness and a very long finish. Dense and powerful for the vintage, with tension, vibrations, good concentration and a tannin framework. 93% cabernet sauvignon, 5% merlot, 1% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot.

A tremendous effort from Margaux in 2024. Fragrant Cabernet notes on the nose, blackcurrant leaf, blackcurrants, cherries, some tobacco touches, dark fruits with aromatic nuances on the nose. Wild flower meadows with ripe cherries and blackcurrants. Glossy and so smooth, incredibly well textured, not demonstrative, this is sleek and like layers of silk on top of each other, a glossy feel and so confident. Blue cherry, cola, crushed blueberries, salty touches, liquorice and dark chocolate - everything balanced. Beautiful, this is just what you expect from Margaux, precision and perfection with a lively acidity and crushed stone chalkiness on the finish. 1% Cabernet Franc completes the blend. 13% press wine. 46% grand vin production.

The 2024 Château Margaux has turned out beautifully, unfurling in the glass with notes of cassis, violets, cigar box and iris. Medium to full-bodied, deep and vibrant, with excellent density and concentration for the vintage, it's lively and layered, concluding with a long, penetrating finish. This is a serious, youthfully tightly wound blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc that attained 12.8% alcohol.

Philippe Bascaules reported yields averaging 30 hectoliters per hectare at Château Margaux, while noting that Merlot on clay-limestone was hit worst by mildew, with yields as low as 10 hectoliters per hectare in places, whereas Cabernet Sauvignon on gravel fared much better. Given Cabernet on gravel always represents the core of Margaux's blend, fully 46% of the estate's production went into the grand vin, somewhat more than usual. Bascaules noted that here (as elsewhere), the season favored early-ripening parcels, which consistently delivered the best results, whereas later-ripening plots were prone to pyrazine and green tannins so didn't make it into either the grand vin or the Pavillon Rouge (the latter representing 28% of Margaux's production). Fermentation temperatures were somewhat warmer, with twice-daily pump-overs and somewhat longer macerations—essentially a return to the model that was de rigueur at the estate 20 years ago.

93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot. 30 hl/ha. 46% of the production. Cask sample.
Fragrant but more complex and subtle than Pavillon Rouge. Smooth texture with plenty of tension and abundant, forceful but refined tannins. Long and explosive on the finish. Super-elegant and delicious to boot.

The production of Château Margaux 2024 required constant attention. This particularly technical vintage demanded heightened precision all the way through to the harvests, in which every decision played a vital role in preserving the balance and aromatic purity that characterise the Grand Vin. Harvesting conditions were not ideal, with several rainy spells punctuating the picking. Despite the risk of botrytis, we maintained our commitment to wait for each plot to reach optimal ripeness, so as to preserve and fully express the identity of the terroir. The harvests took place in two stages: from the 23rd to 29th of September with a reduced team, then from the 30th of September to the 8th of October with all of our pickers mobilised. The Château Margaux 2024 Grand Vin represents 46% of the harvest, a slightly higher percentage than in previous years. This was due to the best cabernet sauvignon plots which, being less susceptible to downy mildew, produced the vineyard’s highest yields. The blend, true to Château Margaux’s identity, is dominated by 93% cabernet sauvignon, giving it structure and depth. The remainder is made up of 5% merlot, 1% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot, enriching its aromatic complexity and refining its balance.

This vintage stands out for its wonderful finesse, lively freshness and elegant tannins. Its delicate, refined aromatic expression perfectly reflects the precision and purity we seek in our wines. The Château Margaux 2024 Grand Vin illustrates once again the extraordinary capacity of our terroir to express, even in the most challenging years, exceptional grandeur and timeless elegance.
