The 2010 Léoville Poyferré is a powerful, rich, and complex wine, with deep garnet color and aromas of black fruit, plum, cassis, cedar, and spices. The palate is imposing, with fine-grained tannins and notes of plum, spices, and cedar that linger on the finish. A touch of liquorice adds freshness, enhancing its balance. While the wine shows great depth and precision, it has the potential for long-term aging. With its full body and bold flavors, it exemplifies the classic Saint-Julien style, promising exceptional longevity.

Opulent aromas of blackberry, black cherry and orange peel follow through to a full body with round, creamy tannins and a flavorful finish. A big, significant wine that is starting to open and come around. A long life ahead of it. Drink or hold.

Intense fruit, perfumed elements with strong wood notes. It's confident and a bit of a show-off, but the fruit and plush tannic chewiness are at the fore, so it avoids overt minerality or leanness, unlike many in the tasting. Has weight and vigour but with freshness and mass appeal. Not so refined, but not harsh either. Cool blueberries and graphite, liquorice elements. Different style to many.

Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Léoville Poyferré opens with notes of sautéed herbs and pencil shavings on the nose, giving way to scents of redcurrant jelly, baked plums and cedar chest plus a waft of cassis. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has pleasant energy and well-played, lightly chewy tannins with compelling freshness on the finish.

56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc. 18–20 months in French oak, 80% new. Malo in barrel. pH 3.62.
Lower proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon than in most vintages. Deep garnet with ruby rim and opaque core. Funnily enough this smells very Cabernet. Lots of blackcurrant and cedar but with air this shows itself to be rather ripe and decadent with a touch of damson fruit, even dried fruits. Very little evolution in the aroma just ripeness and power. The flavour is showing a more tertiary character with just the start of undergrowth and little bit leathery. Powerful and chewy in texture but just a little bit rustic. A big rather than an elegant wine. Powerful, thick tannins but I am not sure the fruit has the freshness and vibrancy for a very very long life, despite my general expectations of the vintage. Tails away a little on the finish.

    Leoville-poyferre.fr

Second Grand Cru Classé in 1855, Château Léoville Poyferré is an emblematic estate in the Saint-Julien appellation. The vineyard extends over 80 hectares of magnificent deep gravel terroirs along the Gironde estuary. The wines are sensual, vibrant and precise, and their ageing potential is matched only by their charm.

    2008- 2009 – 2010 : First fabulous trilogy of the XXIst century
2010 is a sunny vintage reminiscent of 2009, although with lower temperatures. The wine itself shows the classicism of the 2008 vintage and the style of the 2005 with additional power.
The new double-wall truncated cone shaped vats allow a real plot-by-plot vinification of the Grand Vin for the first time, enabling a pre-fermentary cold maceration to be carried out in optimum conditions. The results are immediately visible both in the aromatic intensity of the fruit and in the quality of tannins extracted.
The Cabernet Sauvignon reveals the purity of its fruit with this vintage.
2010 promises an exceptional potential !

    Our tasting notes – 2010
The 2010 vintage is a deep garnet color with ruby-vermeil highlights, showing pefect evolution.

Rich and complex on the nose, it is bursting with aromas of black fruit, plum, cassis, cedar, and spices.

On the palate, this vintage is imposing with fine-grained tannins.  Notes of plum, spices and cedar carry through to the lingering finish.  A touch of liquorice adds freshness to this powerful, beautifully balanced wine.  A great Saint-Julien of exquisite precision.
