Chateau La Mission Haut Brion Pessac-Leognan *ETA Q3, 2027 En-Primeur* 2024 750ml

A serious and structured interpretation of the vintage, the 2024 La Mission Haut-Brion showcases the estate’s hallmark intensity and depth, with a fresh, mineral edge. Notes of dark cherries, red fruit, spices, and licorice rise from a powerful yet poised frame, backed by fine-grained tannins and a long, refined finish. Thanks to the warm, early-ripening terroir and precise vineyard management, this wine defied a cool, challenging year to deliver grace, density, and aging potential in equal measure.

Drink: 2027-2044
Notes of dark berries, spices, mulberries and discreet hints of new oak preface the 2024 La Mission Haut-Brion, a medium to full-bodied, dense and attractively seamless wine for the vintage, with a textural mid-palate that's underpinned by a firm chassis of tannins, concluding with a long, broad and rather ripe finish. Slightly austere at this stage, it is likely to flesh out with élevage, developing into a structured and serious La Mission with promising aging potential. Like its sibling Haut-Brion, the estate benefited from its intramural location in Pessac, which allowed for more complete ripening in a year that posed greater challenges for some other Pessac-Léognan properties.

A precise, classic vintage showing depth of fruit, but with beautiful austerity and minerals. Mostly red fruit, with touches of dark cherries and currants. Medium- to full-bodied with very fine-etched tannins and lots of brightness. So long and refined in the finish, showing restraint. 51% cabernet sauvignon, 46.5% merlot and 2.5% cabernet franc.

Complex, full-bodied and rich… Château La Mission Haut-Brion red invites the most flattering descriptions. The blend adapts according to the vintage, but Château La Mission Haut-Brion red wine always retains its unparalleled charisma.
2024 tasting notes
A beautiful garnet red color with purple highlights. The nose is powerful, intense, and complex. Already very typical of the vintage! Swirling reveals a medley of red and black fruits with hints of licorice. It's beautiful! The entry is broad and fleshy. The wine then evolves with great charm, without harshness, full-bodied, and with incredible flavor. This Mission Haut-Brion 2024 is the perfect response from this vintage to the difficult climate. The rainless summer allowed the vines to unexpectedly and successfully ripen their fruit!
The climate
The year 2024 was undeniably cooler than previous years, but its wet winter, marked by mild weather, led to an early budburst of almost two weeks, starting in mid-March. In the months that followed, humidity set in for a long time with significant rainfall, and vine growth was slowed. From the beginning of spring, early pressure from fungal diseases appeared, and the teams were on hand to monitor closely and intervene in the vineyard when necessary. Flowering arrived late and proceeded evenly for the whites, while the reds showed some coulures, linked to the weather. In July, thanks to good weather conditions, the vines fully expanded, and the teams accompanied this with meticulous green work, protecting the bunches by limiting the green organs and by precise leaf removal to aerate the berries and limit humidity. 2024 was marked by a demanding season but the vines, accompanied with great precision and perseverance by our committed teams, offered a harvest whose first juices revealed wines full of promise.
Although the growing season was undeniably less abundant than the generous year 2023, the terroir once again played a decisive role: its precocity brought the grapes to the desired alcohol levels quickly, allowing the harvest to begin in the first days of September for the whites, in very good health. A welcome combination of relatively warm days and cool nights produced expressive Sauvignons and Sémillons with delicate aromas. After pressing, the juices were fine, balanced, even charming. During September, a northeast wind arrived which, for six days, dried the vineyard and thus preserved the health of the vineyard, while bringing additional concentration to the Merlots and Cabernets. The red grape harvest then began, meticulous and thorough, with sorting carried out in the vineyard and upon arrival at the winery, in order to retain only the colorful, ripe, and perfectly healthy berries. The grapes returned the favor, with aromatic and fruity juices that promised beautiful wines, proving once again that nature and know-how combined produce miracles.
