Produced from exceptionally low yields, this vintage delivers remarkable purity, finesse, and precision, combining layers of dark berries, floral notes, cedar, spice, and subtle earthy complexity with silky yet structured tannins. Elegant, vibrant, and built for long ageing, the 2025 Cheval Blanc is already regarded by critics as one of the estate’s finest wines of the decade.

The Wine Advocate | RP 98-100
Published: Apr 30, 2026

A blend of 51% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Franc and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2025 Château Cheval Blanc stands out once again as among the finest wines of the vintage in Bordeaux. Wafting from the glass with a deep bouquet of dark berries and cherries mingled with notions of blood orange and iris, it's full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with terrific mid-palate density, sweet tannins and a long, vibrant, violet-inflected finish. With its striking aromas, intensity of flavor and resolutely classical proportions (checking in at 12.7% alcohol and pH of 3.76), the 2025 gives every indication of being one of the great Cheval Blancs of the decade.

Despite two notable heat spikes in August, the 2025 growing season at Cheval Blanc wasn't as hot as 2022 and 2023; but it did witness the most pronounced hydric deficit yet recorded at this address. Berries were small, with no Cabernet Franc at more than one gram and Merlot on average 1.1 grams—meaning that fully two kilograms of fruit was required to produce one liter of wine. While the old vines and parcels with more clay held up well, Pierre Olivier Clouet and his team decided to drop fruit from the younger vines on more well-drained soils to reduce the burden on the plants. August rain saved the day and combined with cool nights in September to deliver a brilliant Cheval Blanc, with 46 out of the estate's 47 blocks making it into the grand vin.

James Suckling | JS 98
Published: Apr 30, 2026

Perfumed, with aromas of flowers, brambleberries and wild berries. Chinese five spice, cedar, cinnamon, rose buds, soy, purple flowers, blackcurrants and cherries on the nose. Supple and fleshy, round and enveloping yet softly chalky so you get weight but not massive density in the glass. Tannins are wonderful and the power comes underneath not at the fore. Suave, fresh and floats along the palate – generous yet reined in, glossy, bright with lovely acidity. Almost a bit shy and quiet but so well controlled. I love it for its delicacy and hands-off approach. Definitely not a showstopper but given the conditions it’s incredible how they ended up here. Complex, charming, soft, pretty and delicious without trying too hard at all. 3.76pH.
Closure: Cork
Alcohol: 12.70%
Body: Medium
Grapes: 45% Cabernet Franc 4% Cabernet Sauvignon 51% Merlot

Jancis Robinson | JR 18.5
Published: Apr 22, 2026
Drink: 2033-2060

51% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Franc, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon. 15 hl/ha.
