Elegant and expressive, the 2011 vintage opens with aromas of cherry, smoke, and spicy oak. On the palate, it’s fresh and supple with fine tannins, vibrant acidity, and subtle notes of licorice and citrus on the long, refined finish. A graceful expression of the Grèves terroir with impressive balance and charm.

This rich version is tinged with smoke and spicy oak notes, set against a core of cherry fruit. Firms up on the finish, where hints of licorice and spice linger. This remains fresh and balanced, gaining suppleness with air. Drink now through 2020. 300 cases imported.

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The 2011 Beaune 1er Cru Grèves from Bouchard Père has an open and generous bouquet that is far more inviting than the other Beaune Grèves in this group. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp and quite succulent tannins, well-judged acidity and a bright, vibrant finish that has a citrus-like intensity. Long in the mouth, this is a well-crafted and quite delicious Pinot that shows off the propitious nature of its terroir.

12-15 months in oak, about 30-50% new. Mid crimson. More spicy and less immediately perfumed than the Clos de la Mousse. Refined, fairly slight, a little dry and light on the finish.

The name 'Vigne de L'Enfant Jesus' refers to an old story. It is said that Marguerite du Saint Sacrement, the founding carmelite of the 'Domestiques de la famille du Saint Enfant Jesus' predicted the birth of the king of France, Louis XIV, although her mother, Anne of Austria was sterile. On the birth of the future 'Roi Soleil', this exceptional vineyard which belonged to the Carmelites, took on the name 'Vigne de L'Enfant Jesus'. In 1791, when all national property was sold, Bouchard Pere & Fils put in a bid for the vineyard, situated in the heart of the 32 hectares of the Beaune Greves appellation, of which it still has the monopoly today.
