A vibrant, elegant Pinot Noir with layered notes of blackberry, violet, licorice, and spice. Polished and fresh, with fine tannins and great energy. One of the standouts of the vintage—refined yet expressive, with solid ageing potential.

Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Beaune 1er Cru Grèves Vignes de l'Enfant Jesus has a crisp, tensile bouquet that seems to show more freshness and vitality than its peers. There are bright red cherries mixed with damson and citrus fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and well judged acidity. The oak is well integrated and there is plenty of freshness and tension on the finish. This is one of the best Beaune Grèves of the vintage.

11-14 months in French oak, 25% new. More pure, lively fruit aroma than on the other Bouchard wines tasted so far, though still with an earthy note. Lively, spiced and tannins extremely fine. Elegant and long.

The name 'Vigne de L'Enfant Jesus' refers to an old story. It is said that Marguerite du Saint Sacrement, the founding carmelite of the 'Domestiques de la famille du Saint Enfant Jesus' predicted the birth of the king of France, Louis XIV, although her mother, Anne of Austria was sterile. On the birth of the future 'Roi Soleil', this exceptional vineyard which belonged to the Carmelites, took on the name 'Vigne de L'Enfant Jesus'. In 1791, when all national property was sold, Bouchard Pere & Fils put in a bid for the vineyard, situated in the heart of the 32 hectares of the Beaune Greves appellation, of which it still has the monopoly today.
