The deep, densely colored 2019 Yacca Block Menglers Hill Shiraz starts off with notes of bay leaf and sage, develops luscious dark-fruit notes of blueberries and blackberries, then turns more savory black olives and licorice on the finish. It’s full-bodied, rich and concentrated yet remains balanced and refreshing on the long finish. One of the more complex and balanced of the Block wines most vintages, it appears to be a pretty consistent vineyard.

Perched high up on the hillside of the Eden Valley, this beautifully positioned vineyard is surrounded by ancient Yaccas. The soil here is a mix of both quartz and ironstone and the vineyard’s high altitude allows for slow ripening that leads to a very soft and elegant Shiraz.

Colour
Deep dark red.

Aroma
Notes of black cherry, blueberry, green and black peppercorn, cut flower, green tobacco and fresh hung meat.

Palate
Hits the palate with plenty of vibrant primary fruits black cherry and blueberry complimented by fresh acidity. Medium to full-bodied, tightly coiled with plenty of reserved power. Chalky, savoury tannins roll through the mid-palate with a finish that is accented with complexing notes of spice, pepper and freshly cut flower. The finish is very long and refined.
