To create this distinctive Macallan, new oak from America is brought across thousands of miles to Spain, where casks are crafted and sherry seasoned before travelling to the distillery on Speyside to mature. These whiskies are then harmoniously united with those aged in the very best European sherry seasoned oak casks. As American oak imparts delicate flavours of vanilla, citrus and butterscotch while European oak delivers the unmistakable subtle spice of The Macallan, mastery of this union results in a perfect balance of two styles that creates a distinctive range with an extraordinary fusion of vanilla and subtle spice. Absolutely wonderful. The Macallan Double Cask 18 Years Old has an amber honey tint with aromas of dried fruit, ginger, toffee and rich orange with hints of clove and nutmeg. The palate is rich with raisin and sultana and notes of caramel, vanilla and ginger, balanced by wood spice and zesty citrus, with a finish of warm oak spice and ginger, turning to sweet orange.
