The 2006 Château Léoville Poyferré is a harmonious and evolving wine, offering a deep garnet color with bright, vermilion highlights. It opens with expressive toasty aromas, accompanied by ripe black fruits and subtle vanilla. The palate is fresh and vibrant, with well-integrated, silky tannins that carry through to a lively, persistent finish. This wine, with its rich structure and depth, continues to evolve beautifully, showcasing a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. It demonstrates the elegance and complexity expected of a fine Bordeaux, making it a wine to enjoy now or continue aging.

Tasted at Bordeaux Index's annual 10-Year On tasting in London. The 2006 Chateau Leoville Poyferre has one of the most harmonious and complete bouquets from Saint Julien: very well-defined blackberry, briary and chalky scents, real focus and delivery here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, ripe tannin matched with well-judged acidity. Like the 2006 Leoville-Barton, it is stubborn and backward, but there is clearly harmony and focus on the finish, the new oak deftly assimilated in the fabric of the wine. This is a lovely wine from Didier Cuvelier. Tasted January 2016.

Wonderful aromatics that display beautiful aromas of bramble fruits, evolving with age into glowing embers without sacrificing fruit. A rich smoked chicory note is evident that sets Léoville Poyferré apart from the other two Bordeaux Léovilles. Still young and crackling with life with undeniable exoticism. There is a real sense of lift through the palate and excellent persistency.

73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot and 21% Merlot.
Deep crimson with garnet rim. Lovely, dark, spicy cassis with just a hint of cassis leaf. Dark and very slightly floral. Upright, dry and long-limbed, savoury and dark and long. Tannins are still quite chewy/chalky but rounded and there's good freshness. Some fine cigar-box notes.

    A great 2006. Comparable to 1996 ?
The vines benefited from very similar weather conditions to 2005 until September.

The careful mastery of  vine-care techniques followed by well-adapted vinification methods have brought out the full quality potential of this vintage, revealing a remarkable wine, more marked by the Cabernet Sauvignon than usual, comparable to 1996.

    Our tasting notes – 2022
The 2006 vintage is bright and limpid, showing a deep garnet color with pronounced vermeil highlights, reminiscent of a great Bordeaux.

Toasty notes are in the forefront of this expressive wine accompanied by aromas of ripe black fruit accented by vanilla.  Still pleasant and bright, the bouquet is evolving beautifully.

Fresh and tasty upon entry, ripe black fruit aromas echo through to the mid-palate with silky, well-integrated  tannins, ending on a lively note.
