    The 2004 Château Latour is a classic, structured wine with powerful yet refined fruit flavors of blackberry and plum, enhanced by hints of bergamot, gunflint, and earth. While its tannins are still prominent, the wine's balance and elegance shine through, with a lingering finish. Though it’s approachable now, it will continue to evolve and improve with age, making it an excellent choice for long-term aging through 2045.

    The 2004 Latour is perhaps evolving slower than I expected, although it remains one of the finest Left Bank wines of the vintage. It has that quintessential graphite-scented bouquet intermixed with blackberry and cedar, although the liquorice note that I observed previously has receded. Again, there is wonderful definition. The palate is full-bodied but surprisingly more sultry than I expected, especially here where I was able to directly compare it with the other 2004 First Growths. It delivers the "authority" you expect from Latour, although I might be inclined just to give it another 2-3 years in bottle. Tasted September 2016.

    The dark garnet colour of the 2004 Latour contrasted with the bright, plummy fruit aroma. It was perhaps less forward than the Mouton, yet it was exquisite with hints of bergamot, gunflint, and earth. The texture was tannic but not overly so, and the dense extract lead the wine to a lovely, lingering finish. This wine last year changed my opinion of the 2004 vintage, and it remains at least as attractive today.

    This is surprisingly approachable, especially from a big bottle. It’s soft and fruity with balsamic and sweet tobacco character. Full and round mouthfeel. It will obviously improve with age, but why wait? Served from imperial bottle.

    Released 2014. Blackish shaded crimson. Very evolved nose. Blackcurrant, slightly edgy fruit. Deep and chunky. Slightly edgy. Dusty finish. Opened out in the glass.

    Château Latour’s Grand Vin is made exclusively from “vieilles vignes”, an average of 60 years-old, in the Enclos. Gravettes, Sarmentier, Pièce de Château... these are the names of some of the finest plots that express the character of the terroir and forge the wine’s identity every year.

    The heart of the Enclos is the only terroir that, every year, can produce the depth, elegance and concentration that we expect of the Grand Vin. It is here that the Cabernet Sauvignon (accounting for more than 90% of the blend) can achieve optimal expression in terms of colour, richness and freshness. These wines need time - often a decade- before they begin to be ready for drinking.

    In great vintages, the power and energy of Château Latour's wines enables them to continue to develop for several decades with ease. The bouquet and impressions on tasting gradually evolve, becoming increasingly complex, ultimately reaching a peak, after which the tannins soften and then the wine slowly declines. Beyond the pleasure of drinking them, these wines can produce powerful feelings and unforgettable moments.

    Château Latour is also known for having the ability to produce fine wines even in difficult years.

    2004 Wine style - The 2004 vintage saw the return of a very classic wine with a powerful, fresh, lively style, and a solid, precise structure. Very concentrated fruit is supported by an imposing structure, and already showing great purity and a rare level of energy. The finish is long and very silky, supported by very well-integrated tannins.
