An excellent wine in what was a disastrous year for most Pomerol estates, Clinet’s 1991 may turn out to be the best wine of the appellation! Its surprisingly deep ruby/purple color does not suggest the horrendous conditions under which the grapes were harvested. The bouquet of pure, rich, black-raspberry fruit and subtle oak is followed by a medium-bodied wine with surprising ripeness, richness, and an especially long finish. It is difficult to imagine the effort that went into producing a wine this seductive and rich in 1991. Clinet’s 1991 should drink well for 7-10 years.
