At Monthelie – pronounced “Monthlie” – the first traces of vineyards date back to the 9th century. Situated between Volnay, Meursault and Auxey-Duresses, this village often remains unnoticed by the visitor on a journey from Volnay to Meursault, for many do not stop here in spite of the attractive old houses to be seen. There is also a Romanesque church typical of medieval Burgundy, and a castle dating back to the year 1000. Bouchard Pere & Fils owns three vineyards with complementary exposures (east, south and west) for a total surface area of 5.94 hectares.
