An excellent introduction to the red wines of Beaune, this has full red-fruit and earthy character with hints of spicy oak and licorice. A crowd-pleasing balance of generosity and moderately dry tannins on the palate with good length. Should age well. Drink or hold.

There are 55,000 bottles of the 2019 Beaune 1er Cru du Chateau, a medium to full-bodied, velvety wine evocative of cherries, smoky plums, spices and dark chocolate. Charming and perfumed, it’s an elegant wine that gets my nod as the finest Beaune du Chateau for some time.

Fine, very perfumed nose. This harmonious, well-constituted wine has the typical softness of Beaune’s Premiers Crus. Good ageing potential.
