Very deep and dark fruit in the nose, with violets, ink, blackberries, roasted meat, asphalt and spices. Wet earth, too. Medium-to full-bodied with creamy tannins and a wonderful finish. Ink and slate notes develop. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink or hold.

The Duemani 2019 Syrah Suisassi is a dark, full-bodied wine with an almost impenetrable appearance. This vintage delivers a powerful bouquet and a richly textured mouthfeel that is interwoven with meaty dark fruit, cured tobacco, dark cola, licorice and more exotic spice. The effect is very pretty, especially the manner in which these aromas mirror each other with seamless transitions. There is a special intensity here that reflects the detailed-minded character of winemaker Luca D'Attoma. Thirty percent whole cluster is used.
Duemani, the wine estate founded in 2000 by Elena Celli and Luca D’Attoma, was sold to Tenute del Leone Alato. The announcement was made earlier this month in May 2023. Located in Riparbella, Tuscany, Duemani is an organic and biodynamic estate with 12 hectares of vines. Tenute del Leone Alato is part of the Italian insurance group Generali.

Suisassi is a 100% Syrah wine spontaneously fermented with 30% whole-cluster fruit in barrels and small conical oak tanks. After a 30-day maceration, the wine is racked off the skins and matures in the same vessels for 22 months. Vibrant red and black fruits demonstrate balsamic freshness and violet overtones, with good concentration and a spicy finish.

LANDS
Clayey, saline and with a significant presence of calcareous skeleton.
HARVEST
Finished around mid-September. The grapes are selected in the vineyard and harvested by hand in small crates. They are gently destemmed to obtain whole berries and further selected by hand on the sorting table.
VINIFICATION
Spontaneous fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled, conical oak vats, followed by maceration on the skins for approximately 30 days with brief pumping over. Aging began in December 2019, and the wine remained for 22 months in 225/228-liter French oak barriques, 80% new and 20% new. It undergoes neither fining nor filtration.
TASTING NOTES
A concentrated ruby red. The nose offers a blend of berries, exotic spices, potpourri fern, hibiscus, chewy licorice, eucalyptus, cocoa, and slate. Smooth and silky, it unfolds with ample minerality, freshness, and finely expressed tannins. A persistent finish, the aromas first perceived on the nose return unchanged. Best enjoyed from 2023 onwards.
