Chateau Pontet Canet Pauillac 2006 750ml
Château Pontet-Canet 2006 – A beautifully mature Pauillac that showcases the estate’s balance of power and precision. The bouquet bursts with violets, blackberry, and blueberry, layered with cedar, dried orange peel, and subtle spice. On the palate, it’s refined and harmonious — medium-bodied with polished tannins, elegant structure, and lingering mineral freshness. Still vibrant and full of energy, this 2006 vintage is entering a superb drinking window yet promises further evolution in the cellar.

Tasted at Bordeaux Index's annual 10-Year On tasting in London. The 2006 Chateau Pontet-Canet has an extremely pure, vivacious, perfumed bouquet with crushed violets infusing the blueberry and blackberry fruit. But it is all about the detail and precision in this wine. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip in the mouth: lightly toasted black fruit, dried orange peel, cedar and a pinch of white pepper. This feels very cohesive and poised with just a touch of mint entering right on the finish. What a great wine from Alfred Tesseron and Jean-Michel Comme. Go grab the corkscrew now, but don't feel that this wine has to be opened for another 5-6 years. Tasted January 2016.

This red is now soft and fruity with plum, berry and mineral character. It?s full-bodied with fine tannins and a gorgeous finish. Drink or hold.

A bit closed initially, the 2006 Pontet Canet opens with time to show notes of black cherry and mulberry fruit aromas with notes of wood smoke, gunflint, and earth. The texture grows in volume on the palate as the wine increases in density with time, carrying the wine to a satisfying finish. The grape blend is 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, all picked between 19 September and early October. This wine is pleasant now, but should continue to open with more time in the cellar.

Tasted blind. Dark crimson. Light edgy nose with quite high VA. Not the purest but rich and racy with lots of tannin on the end. Not the most sophisticated. Chunky.
