Paul Jaboulet Aine Crozes-Hermitage Domaine De Roure 2020 750ml

The 2020 Domaine de Roure comes from steep, granite slopes near Hermitage, offering a rich blend of cassis, blueberry, and smoky hickory notes. It’s medium to full-bodied with firm, silky tannins and a focused, mineral-driven finish. Still young and structured, this Syrah shows great depth and aging potential.

Although still very young and quite tightly wound, this remarkable Crozes-Hermitage already has an enticing nose of red fruit and wild herbs. Both concentrated and quite fleshy on the mid-palate, before it turns more stony with a hint of tar at the long, focused finish. From 40 to 60-year-old vines. From biodynamically grown grapes.

Coming from a west-facing, granite slope—basically an extension of Hermitage's Bessards—the 2020 Crozes Hermitage Domaine de Roure features aromas of hickory smoke and maple sugar but also appealing cassis and blueberry fruit and a bit of crushed stone. In the mouth, the wine shows some granitic austerity on its medium to full-bodied palate, framed by silky but firm tannins that make the wine more structured and straight than the Thalabert bottling.

From the young vines planted at the Thalabert site, the older vines of which go into the Domaine Thalabert Crozes-Hermitage. Dark and black in the glass, hinting at the deep and brooding nature of the aromas. Bramble, black cherry and blueberry jam flavours are underpinned by dark chocolate powder and cocoa nibs. The fruit is laced with graphite and a spicy richness, finishing with a slatey touch. It's intense but comforting and a match for blustery days and log fires.
