El Enemigo Malbec 2021 750ml

This isn’t your average blockbuster Malbec. Crafted with finesse from high-altitude Gualtallary fruit, the 2021 vintage is all about balance, freshness, and elegance. Expect juicy red and blue fruits layered with subtle spice and a whisper of minerality from the calcareous, rocky soils. Fermented with wild yeast and aged for 15 months in old foudres, the wine shows fine-grained tannins, vibrant acidity, and a dry, stony finish. With help from Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, this Malbec brings both depth and refinement. A standout from Alejandro Vigil and Adrianna Catena’s El Enemigo project—drink now or let it evolve through 2029.

The very young 2021 Malbec follows the path of restraint, balance, harmony and elegance that was seen in the 2019, which I tasted next to it. This is a neatly crafted Malbec with varietal typicity, spiced up with some Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, always with very careful oaking to respect the typicity of the variety and the place. It's mineral and stony, finishing dry and long. 35,000 bottles were filled in July 2022.
There are some new wines at El Enemigo, a project from Alejandro Vigil and Adrianna Catena that does not stop growing. They produce an impressive 1.2 million bottles between all the ranges. They are also going to plant some more vineyards with Chardonnay.

Exuberant red and blue fruit with a touch of stones and subtle spices. Juicy and firm on the palate, with a medium to full body and fresh, fine-grained tannins. Quite a long finish full of fruit. Drink or hold.
