Trimbach Gewurztraminer 2019 750ml

The 2019 Trimbach Gewurztraminer is a vibrant, dry style that balances its signature spice—think allspice, cinnamon, and rose petals—with lively acidity and just a hint of tannin. It’s surprisingly food-friendly for a Gewurztraminer, making it a great match for spiced dishes, soft cheeses, or even as a standout aperitif. With flavors of lychee, bitter lemon, and musk, this wine is aromatic, intense, and beautifully structured—ready to enjoy now but also built to develop over the next few years.

Plenty of spice (mostly allspice and cinnamon) on the nose, but what makes this stand out in the field of regular quality Alsace gewurztraminers is the excellent balance, with lively acidity and a hint of tannin that underlines this at the clean finish. Unusually food-friendly for this grape. Drink now.

The 2019 Gewurztraminer opens clear, bright, pure and fresh on the precise and aromatic nose that shows typical fruit aromas such as lychees, bitter lemon and rose petals. The wine is full-bodied, dry and intense, provided with a dense texture and structured by fine tannins and a nice freshness. Good length. 14.5% stated alcohol. Granular cork. Tasted in June 2024.
We published reviews of 18 vintages of the iconic Riesling Clos Sainte Hune in one of the last issues, including the latest from 2019, which has been cultivated in the grand cru Rosacker for 100 years. Beyond that, and as always, I tasted a pretty wide range from vintages here in spring and in late autumn last year. All the crus, whether grand cru or not, are of superb quality. The 2020 Gewürztraminer Muehlforst is a Best Buy; the 2020 Pinot Gris Grand Cru Osterberg is one of the finest Pinot Gris I tasted in Alsace last year; and the Riesling cuvée Frédéric Emile, no matter if the 2018 or 2019, should be seriously considered as a wine to purchase.

Musk, pineapple, rose petal, lychee. A cast-iron classic of the type. Absolutely dry, although the high alcohol gives richness. Long, perfumed, powerful. Shows no sign of being almost five years old!

The fruitiest and the spiciest of the varietals - an unique wine. It is in Alsace that this grape variety reaches the height of perfection.
Its dry personality makes it ideal as an aperitif and it pairs extremely well with specialty cuisine with pronounced flavors. Gewurztraminer is a fine accompaniment for fish or seasoned meats, spicy and exotic dishes, soft cheeses (such as the famous Munster), and a plethora of desserts.
