As in 2021 a mass of cold air hit the region, leading to severe frosts on 1st and 2nd April. The impact was significant with a 40% loss in our yield. However, having pruned part of our vineyard late, several hectares were fortunately saved, as well as some vines that had not yet started to bud.

From May onwards, high temperatures favoured resumption of the vines' growing cycle, and the vintage's sunny character. Flowering occurred rapidly with the strong sunshine, two weeks earlier than in 2021; the cycle then accelerated due to the heat and some rain in early June. The phenological stages ensued rapidly over the month of June. The first heat wave occurred in mid-June, leading to water stress. At the end of June, we had thunderstorms with some hail in our area. Between 5 and 30% of our vineyard was affected, depending on the plot.

The summer was hot and dry, with two further heat waves in mid-July and early August. Temperatures exceeded 40°C. Some rainfall in mid-August enabled the vines to withstand this very dry year and helped ripening. Only young plants started to show signs of severe stress.

We started harvesting for the dry whites early, on 18th August, breaking all our records. The grapes were beautiful with a very good level of acidity.
We finished harvesting the gravelly plots on 23rd August, and followed up with a slightly more clay-heavy area from 24th to 27th August. The harvest of the dry whites ended on 31st August with the plots on the Yquem hillside, which are later-developing terroirs. It took 12 days in all to harvest this dry white vintage.

Tasting note
A pale yellow colour, Lions de Suduiraut Blanc Sec 2022 presents an open nose on white flowers and citrus fruits, then with aeration it evolves towards notes of passion fruit and a mineral touch.
The attack is round and fresh, the delicious mid-palate reveals notes of pink pomelo, pear and roasted hazelnut.
The finish is persistent with aromas of hazelnut, pear and a marked saline side. November was about 3 degrees colder than average and so the set was variable, especially Mauvedre which suffered the worst. Luckily, many varieties still had quite a large potential crop, so yields ended about 15% down from 2021 (which was a big crop year). December was bone dry, but January saw 33mm compared to 20mm average. This too set the vines up very well. There was almost no rain and very mild conditions in February, March and April, free of hot or cold spells which resulted in very good leaf retention and ripening. All varieties resulted in outstanding wines. At this stage, It is early to call the vintage but I believe the reds from this vintage are the best I have seen in years. They show great colour fruit, fruit fragrance, richness, acidity, tannins and style. The Red skins were very thick and crunchy and no shrivel was seen, resulting in high tannin content, causing us to pull juice off the skins sweeter than usual, to achieve the desired results.

The Winemaking
The fruit for this wine is sourced from the cool climate Adelaide Hills. Small batches of grapes are gently crushed, chilled, and then transferred to stainless steel basket presses. The soils are deep decomposed shale. The other 70% comes donated fruit across the Western Cape, from vineyards which includes grapes from Helderberg, facing the cool False bay Atlantic ocean, as well as cool climate vineyards in Elgin. Sauvignon Blanc is a variety that expresses a very distinct and specific sense of place or "terroir". The wine is approached and made in an ?oxidative" style. Older 600 litre barrels were used for the fermentation and maturation bringing forward richness, intense fruit and complexity. 15% of the production was fermented in 600 litre egg shape tanks. In both the barrels and the eggs, extended less contact contribute further to the rounder mouth feel and creaminess of this elegantly textured wine. As with all Lismore wines, balance is the key. The bracing acidity that is customary in new world Sauvignons has been brought into balance with a carefully chosen pick date and the barrel and egg fermentation and maturation. A full bodied, balanced wine was the goal.
This wine is an extraordinary accompaniment to fine cuisine with some of the world?s top chefs choosing.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0564/7728/6464/products/Lismore-Berrel-Fermented-Sauvignon-Blanc_a1a1e9b6-f1be-4fb1-9533-bf7249a3dec2.jpg?v=1706759719
dog-point-marlborough-sauvignon-blanc-2022-750ml
Dog Point Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2022 750ml

Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc 2022 is a stunning example of Marlborough's signature style, offering a fresh and vibrant profile with notes of nettles, thyme, green apples, and grapefruit. Their knowledge of Sauvignon blanc and Pinot noir has therefore naturally led them to explore every aspect of the varietals and fully reveal their potential. The Saget family thus set off in search of the finest Sauvignon blancs and Pinot noirs, armed with both passion and rigour. Their painstaking selection coupled with wine growing expertise have produced wines showing impeccable balance, combining richness and elegance. La Perrière creation wines exemplify a straightforward approach to grape varieties, as evidenced by one of the house’s flagship labels, La Petite Perrière. When the Bernard family purchased Domaine de Chevalier in 1983, the vineyards amounted to only 20 hectares: expansion followed in the woodlands (much of which remain) that occupy this site, on the same stony gravel and black sand over iron-rich clay that defines the estate's historic vineyards. It's a cold site in winter, surrounded by trees, but warm in summer, as the stones reflect heat and the black sands absorb it. Farming is now organic and biodynamic, with experiments with cover crops and unhedged canopies, and drainage to improve more humid parcels. Sauvignon Blanc is planted in the estate's coolest sites, Cabernet Sauvignon on its warmest, and everything else is planted in between. Since 1983, Domaine de Chevalier has naturally evolved: as new plantings came online, the wines lost some of the intensity-without-weight that had always been their signature; in the early 2000s, a concerted effort was made to attain fuller maturity and more concentration, and the wines became a little chunkier and more obviously oaky, too; but recent years have seen a return to seamless elegance, without any loss of depth or persistence. In many respects, indeed, the last few vintages of Domaine de Chevalier bear a closer stylistic kinship to the great wines produced at this address in the 1970s and before than they do to the vintages of the early 2000s. Olivier Bernard and his team, in short, are to be congratulated for ushering in a new golden age at an estate that produces one of Bordeaux's most singular and characterful wines.

James Suckling | JS 96
Published: Feb 1, 2022

Very pretty with lovely apple, cream, lavender, pineapple and light honey. In these conditions, bud break occurred between the 3rd and the 10th of April.
Fortunately, spring did not bring any of the feared frosts. Rain was sparse but frequent during the growing season. There were just two weeks of sustained rain in June (72 mm). However, these conditions made it potentially difficult to keep the vines healthy. The high relative humidity in the air created very favourable conditions for downy mildew. Our vineyard teams succeeded in main¬taining healthy foliage to ensure good-quality ripening of the grapes and a successful harvest.
The vines flowered between the 31st of May and the 5th of June in good conditions, with no signs of coulure or millerandage.
2023 was markedly different from the previous vintage in terms of temperature. In 2022, there were very early heatwaves. In 2023, we had just one real heatwave, between the 17th and the 24th of August, the period when the grape skins mature, becoming thinner and more sensitive to the com-bined action of high temperatures and sunshine. The berries that were most exposed to the sun suffered scalding, forcing us to do a lot of sorting during the harvest.

A vibrant and elegant white from the Ornellaia estate, blending Sauvignon Blanc, Vermentino, Viognier, Verdicchio, and Semillon. A great success!

The Wine Advocate | RP 93-95
Published: Apr 30, 2026

The Domaine de Chevalier 2025 Blanc reveals an expressive bouquet of white fruits—pear and white peach—alongside floral notes. Medium- to full-bodied, it’s dense yet remarkably fresh and precise, with a crystalline, ethereal profile. Both aromatic and concentrated, it combines depth with clarity, concluding with a long, ethereal and perfumed finish. Once again, this is a fine success and surely one of the most precise white wines produced in Bordeaux this year.

Located in the gravel, sandy soils of Pessac-Léognan, Domaine de Chevalier today spans 67 hectares and operates with a quiet sense of control. When the Bernard family took over in 1983, the vineyard counted only 20 hectares; expansion followed into the surrounding woodland, much of which still frames the estate, planted on the same Günzian gravel and black sands over iron-rich clay.

This is a site of contrasts: cold in winter under its forest canopy, yet warm in summer as stones reflect heat and darker soils retain it. Sauvignon Blanc finds its place in the coolest sectors and Cabernet Sauvignon in the warmest, with the remaining varieties in between. Farming is now organic and biodynamic, with cover crops, drainage work in humid parcels and high canopies—sometimes managed without hedging—forming part of the approach.

In the cellar, the direction remains measured. The reds are destemmed and see gentle extraction, with long macerations and restrained pigeage. The whites undergo long pressing, followed by barrel-fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The wines spend their first year in barrels, modestly new-oaked, followed by racking and further élevage in older wood. The whites are bottled under Diam technical closures to ensure consistency.

Since the 1980s, the style has shifted in phases. Early replanting led to a loss of the estate’s historic intensity and weight; the 2000s pursued greater maturity and more evident oak. Today, the wines return to a more seamless expression—discreet, structured and persistent—closer in spirit to earlier decades.

Jancis Robinson | JR 16.5
Published: Apr 16, 2026

70% Sauvignon Blanc, 30% Sémillon. 38 hl/ha.
