Trimbach Riesling Grand Cru Mandelberg 2021 750ml

From a sun-drenched, early-ripening 1.6-hectare parcel of 60+ year-old vines on marl-limestone and pebble-rich soils, this Mandelberg Grand Cru Riesling is a standout in a high-acid vintage. Aromatically lifted and precise, it reveals ripe lemon, pineapple, stone fruit, and floral notes with hints of smoke and wet limestone. The palate is elegant yet powerful—creamy in texture, saline in structure, and marked by racy acidity that drives a long, fresh, and mineral finish.

Sleek and racy, but with excellent polish for this high-acidity vintage, this stunning dry riesling has a wonderful interplay of creaminess with candied-lemon and herbal freshness on the medium-bodied palate. Still quite tightly wound at the bold and crisp finish. Drink or hold.

From a warm, early-ripening 1.6-hectare plot on marl limestone and pebbly soils that have been cultivated since 1996 by Trimbach, the 2021 Riesling Grand Cru Mandelberg offers a generously rich but also refined and smoky limestone bouquet with notes of ripe lemons and pineapples. On the palate, this is a generously rich yet elegant and savory, persistently saline Riesling with a long, intense and aromatic but also stimulating mineral and saline finish. Coming from a very warm site, this is a rather textural yet still elegant Riesling with 14.11% alcohol and seven grams of residual sugar backed up by 7.96 grams of rather smooth tartaric acidity. Tasted at the domaine in April 2024. Tasted again at Trimbach on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Clos Ste Hune at the beginning of November, with the same result, but this note: The 2021 Mandelberg offers a clear, precise, elegant and aromatic bouquet offering white and yellow stone fruit aromas intermingled with mineral notes. Dense, fresh and saline in the palate, this is a very aromatic and elegant, well structured and crispy Riesling with a long and intense, always fresh and aromatic finish. Natural cork.

On limestone.
Water white. Heady nose with real lift. Some of the breadth of tropical flowers – lilies? – on the palate with a hint of blossom. Real palate impact and less obvious acidity than the Brand 2021 … until the very end. Still high in acidity.

Formerly produced under the name Cuvée M, this wine has been called Grand Cru Mandelberg since the 2016 vintage.
It has always come from the Grand Cru Mandelberg in Mittelwihr, on our hectare of old vines over 60 years old with limestone and stony soil, including rolled pebbles, as well as marl-limestone.
Early, warm, very sloping terroir, little soil and south-se exposure.
One of only 3 Grands Crus of Alsace not to be nestled in the Vosges hills, with less shade and freshness coming from the valley and the forest.
Storage: 10-15 years.
